Last night on my way home my XM would not work. If I pushed the XM button on the radio it would show a blank info screen and then switch to FM and play that station, it did this everytime I pushed the XM button, the HDD, FM, AM was fine. I don't think it was a signal problem because it will say "No Signal" when that happens.
Today I went out to the garage to check it and everything was fine.???????
I've posted this before; my '05 STS used to do the same thing at times; it is a software 'bug' of some sort; so far my '08 CTS has never done this.

The radio seems to do all kinds of funky things....once turned off and left for a while all seems to be better

I use to have the problem on my 2002 STS. It seems too many device running confuses the 'boot up' of the onboard computer that runs the car. So it just leaves somethings off ( mine used to leave the cd changer off). A restart after ~10 minutes( a cold boot in pc terms) restored service if I first turned off the radio and then started the car slowly by turning the key to 'on' and letting the check cycles run. After about 10 seconds I would start the car and all devices would work fine.

I don't have a solution, but wanted to point out that on '08 the XM receiver is integrated into the radio itself.
All previous models had an external receiver.
I don't see any bulletins and have not had a customer complaining about that issue yet.

This is the first problem I have had with the radio (10/5/07 owner), but all day today, everything was fine. :hmm:

Suggest you try pulling the XM fuse, waiting briefly, then reinstall. This fix was posted in the STS section and worked on my STS.

I don't think there is a separate "XM" fuse on the '08 CTS. There is one for the "Audio System," one for the "Audio Speakers," and one for "Amplifier" -- plus one for "OnStar System." The XM module is not separate in this car -- it's integrated with the rest of the audio system.

i dont know about any xm problems, but i did get a great deal on 1 year for xm.
i kinda felt 12.95 a month or wahtever it was is too much. So i found a XM thread stating you can get it for 6.50 a month. so $77 a year.
i called up and told them a friend of mine recieved that deal for a year and they had no problem honoring it.
$77 a year for xm. Cant beat it.:histeric:

I had the same problem (blank screen, service outage etc) on my '08 CTS on three occasions. After 5 minutes, with the car off...the system "re-booted". I took the car in and got it back from service with a note saying they "adjusted the wiring harness" .We'll see now.
