Hey folks,

I recently purchased a 2008 CTS and I'm still learning and adjusting to things with the car. One thing I have not been able to figure out is with a Portable USB HDD I have. It's a Western Digital 160GB USB hard drive. It is formatted NTFS. I usually use it for my Norton Ghost backup (so it has non-mp3 stuff on it). However, when I put music on it and plug it in to the car it says "USB Device not supported".

Are there any help guides or anything you folks have experienced to help me ensure that I have the drive setup properly so the car can read my portable USB HDD? Does it need to have only music files on it? Possibly formatted FAT32 (which I won't do)?

Thanks,

Ryan M. moore

Ryan, the system will not read NTFS. It needs to be FAT 32. See other threads on this problem. Your WD drive will work fine -- mine does.

Thanks. I am hesitant to format to FAT32 so I am going to try to get a DVD+/-R working first. I did get my Motorola Razar w/ 2GBs of Flash Memory to work, so worst case I have to do that. However, that records incredibly slow.

Why are you hesitant to format FAT32?

I use it for work. I'm a programmer for a windows-based consulting firm. My platform currently is Vista w/ Visual Studio 2005 about to move to Visual Studio 2008 and they want me to stay on top of the "industry" (while the others stay back at 2005). My work environment requirements specify a lot, including things about my backup drive (the portable drive in question). Besides, i got a fully loaded DVD of MP3's to load today.
