Which do you prefer, the sleeper look of pre 1968 pony and muscle cars, or the extrovert body add ons, swoopy styling and decals of later versions? I think I prefer the boldness of the later cars. Sure horsepower was on the decline as the cars got fancier but they did look exciting.

The GTO was simpler looking in earlier years, 1972 was the peak for outlandishness in looks IMO. The Firebird range also got wilder with the years.

Now that's wild. :D

when anyone deals with old muscle cars the only body mod i like to see is big time chassis twist ...

gotta love a big block

i did like the late GTO judges tho , just for the honeycomb wheels

one of my favorites were the 63 olds jetfires , turbocharged aluminum v8 with alcohol injection from the factory , may not be any chassis twist but pretty damned cool

I love the sleeper look. Whenever I go to a car show and see a cheap car, like a Biscayne, with rubber floor mats, dog dish hubcaps, a 4 speed and a 427 my knees get week. The later cars with those crazy colors and wings really have no appeal to me. I'd rather be stealthy.

I suspected that the stripped out, plan old racer look of the pre 1968 cars would hold sway. Something like a 1981 Camaro Z/28 makes me happy, although that genre of car has a lot more show than go.
In the 80s the sleeper look came back into fashion and the Mustangs were big exponents of this from 1982 on. The wild era started with cars like the Carousel red GTO Judge, green AMX, first Trans Am with blue stripes, and this wild era ended in 1981 with the final screamin hood chicken 4.9 Turbo Trans Am and the last of the 1979-81 Mustangs with the Cobra decal pack. Love that beserk hood snake graphic, oh yeah!

Mustangs andTrans Ams aren't sleepers. Those are cars that you'd expect to be somewhat fast.

I like sleeper and retro. Anything trying to look new or modern usually falls short of the mark for me.

The Pontiacs of the mid and late 70's just looked gaudy to me, way too much extra plastic slapped on for effect. Style without substance.

Unmodded chevelles are sleepers. Trust me, without the stripes and all, they look slow. Especially the pre 1970 models.

"AMX"

Ahh yes the big bad colors on the amx , i was partial to big bad orange

Tho a pink amx went to the playmate fo the year in 69 i belive , a very ugly car

Oh yes, the Playboy AMX present, forgot about that. :) Here's a 1969 AMX, those cars looked good and went well with the GO pak IMO.

Althought I like the sleeper look, A Trans Am with the screaming chicken on the hood is just too cool.

haha , isnt that the truth , always think twice before starting something with a "primer rod"

Freind of mine was eaten alive by a old primer 85 LTD II with mustang parts in it , namely the 5.0 and 5 speed ....
