: Anyone from Alberta?

03-23-08, 05:36 PM
Is there anyone from Alberta on this forum?

03-24-08, 01:20 AM
Yep, you just gotta read some of the threads in this section.

05 S/C'd CTS-V here.... almost ready for some daylight, waiting for the city to do street sweeping and get rid of the winter gravel.

03-29-08, 04:52 PM
Another here. My wife and I have a 05 CTS and in fact today went to see our new 08 CTS that we factory ordered. It arrived 6 weeks to the day today. Also I need to give a plug th GSL in Calgary. They are awesome to deal with.

03-30-08, 04:25 PM
I'm from Calgary. Bought the CTS and liked it so much I bought the V since my wife wouldn't let me drive "her" CTS! The V is at GSL for shifting problems. Looks like they are doing clutch/flywheel/slave on warranty. Another dealership that will remain nameless fought me every time I talked to them.

04-06-08, 02:23 PM
Just drove by GSL this morning. My car is still waiting for clutch etc. Noticed another V there: Black, tinted windows with aftermarket chrome wheels. Anyone from here?

hello, I am from Calgary. I drive a white 03 Cts with dual pipe upgrade and 20 bose rims, just ordered a nice set of Geovoni black 20" rims. i will post a picture when I am get them. Need a new front bumper and front windshield. damn winter sandblastered my car. Also lost the rear reverse licence plate lens. Any one have a paint match white or black they done need any more?

05-23-08, 01:48 PM
Nice to hear good things about GSL, I am seriously considering them for my upcomming work. Blew the diff in my cts-V. Not that I'm trying to be a cheapskate but my only issue (same at other dealers) is the price for the part.... $3883. Exact same part can be had in the states for $1325. If I end up getting the parts stateside I'll take the savings and get GSL to install some things that have been waiting all fall/winter. Headers/Exhaust/Reflashed PCM/SS brake lines.

While on the phone with GSL recently about my rear diff, they mentioned they just had one in for an insurance job (really hard curb hit with the rear end) he was using that as an example for a labour estimate. I'll be it was that car you saw.

05-24-08, 08:46 PM
Yes, that was the car. He is from Red Deer and is on these forums as Kevybear.
I haven't seen a post from him for a while though.
If you are talking to GSL ask for Denise, she treated me well as I've already mentioned. I also told her about Lindsay/Luke.

05-29-08, 12:21 AM
Andy1 in Calgary with platinum 06 DTS L2

06-06-08, 03:29 PM
Sherwood Park here...

06-26-08, 04:53 PM
How is the maggie?? Haven't seen you post for a long time. You Edmonton guys
are not well represented here.

07-09-08, 06:44 AM
Maggie is doing good. I took it in for a tune, and it turns out the Maggie tune is pretty good, though they locked it in, and i'm hoping they'll release it to the tuner so he can do a bit more fine tuning on it.

07-16-08, 09:11 AM
Steve Here, from Calgary, I have a 2008 Cadillac Escalade - Mod begins

my other stablemate is a 2006 Z06, with mods of course:)

That wasn't my car......no insurance claims here. What is GSL?? My name was kevybear but now KEV-V as you can see. I haven't been on the forum alot, working away for quite awhile. Now time to mod my car some more but the snow's gonna fly soon.

09-11-08, 12:08 AM
Don't use that four letter word here! Track day on Sept 30 and Vegas third week of Oct. Better not be snowing!!!
GSL is a Chev/Caddy dealership in Calgary. The V they had had really wild chrome wheels, I had thought I had seen it before. Guess I was wrong.

09-14-08, 02:27 AM
04 CTS-V silver in calgary.

09-16-08, 09:59 AM
What area of town? I see a Platinum around 130 Ave SE sometimes. ie Keg a few weeks ago.

09-16-08, 10:23 AM
I am in NW, opposite side of the city. Just got the car 3 days ago too. Who else on here is in Calgary? We should have a meet. I know there are at least 2-3 guys with CTS-V on beyond.ca. Check out the forum if you are not already on.

09-17-08, 10:56 AM
Albertan is CTSV on beyond :)

09-17-08, 01:15 PM
New signature... test....

09-17-08, 04:02 PM
4door and I are on beyond. I figured Albertan wouldn't work on Beyond!
I have talked 4door into signing up for the AllenBerg road car day on Sept 30. First timers have to go for morning session from 7AM to noon. I've done it before so I get to go after noon. It is a lot of fun and you learn a lot and don't have to worry about getting caught for speeding.
By the way, does your car have original shifter and rubber bushings and the dreaded CAGS? If so you will like the car even more when you change them.

09-17-08, 04:58 PM
Yup I know 4Door, he bought some wheels from the guy I got the CTSV from. I traded him my Acura TLS and some $.

As I understand car has UUC shifter. Don't know about the bushings. Car has Magnaflow. I am not
familar with the CAGS but will search.

There is a beyond end of summer cruise on Sunday to Cascade Pond. I think I will do that. Should come out!

09-18-08, 04:27 PM
Nah, I don't think so. Everyone on Beyond seems in their 20's. I could be their father. I know my son wouldn't appreciate me hanging around with him and his buddies. But have a good time and uphold the V name. CAGS is the thing that makes the car want to shift 1-4 if you are just normal driving. I HATED it.
If your shifter feels a bit rubbery, then it still has the original bushings.
Lindsay sells Polyurethane bushings that will make the shifter feel better.

09-18-08, 05:22 PM
No cruise for me either, out of town working. Car is also in at RCTS for some "stuff"

09-19-08, 05:35 AM
I thought Reg does mainly Euro and Jap cars. What r u getting done? I was thinking of going to Davenport and asking about a Tune etc.

09-19-08, 12:13 PM
Reg is doing my Headers/exhaust/cutouts, but mostly went there for a stealth install for my gauges. Davenport was my first choice, but was booking far in advance (started calling in early august).

It's his first CTS-V to work on but has dont lots to Vettes. I had my car dyno'd at Davenport, oh yeah they wouldnt install my headers/exhaust cuz I didnt buy it from them, thats why Reg is working on it, now I remember.

09-24-08, 03:33 PM
Calgary here...no Cadillac yet but hoping to change that this weekend or so.

I've been searching for months for a large GM SUV, waiting for prices to come down just a bit. Actually have a fully loaded (minus the 20" wheels) 08 Suburban LT3 on hold out in BC with only 14k km's. Nice unit, and hard to beat that warranty and amount driven. Nav, dark leather, only thing I'd change is the wheels.

However, I'd love to have an ESV. I just don't know if I'd be happy with an 05 or 06 Platinum (Platinum only). I've looked at a few and love the look of them on the outside, its just the same interior that I had on my 03 and 04 Avalanches, minus a dated looking Nav screen and cooled seats and different guages. That, and the ones around are either out of warranty or near enough..but could get one in the low $30K range. The 07's are far too rich up here just because $45K+, and low in quantity down in the US, which means higer prices down there too.

The wife is sick of me looking and wants me to just decide already and spend whatever (so she says). I'm wasting far too much time at work hunting around daily.

I had the $ in my hand on a local dealers' 07 ESV with 70k KM and no nav and no wheels for $40K about a month ago, but couldn't pull the trigger with that many miles and no nav/22"'s, when it came down to closing the deal.

As much as I'd be able to spend $45k-$50k on an ESV with nav and the 22"s, I just don't know if I can justify $10k over the 08 Suburban and get an 07 ESV with 50k km on it. I'd still get two years of driving on each, and other then the wheels, Xenon, bigger nav, cooled seats, power liftgate (this Burb doesn't have it), its the same mechanical vehicle.

I have a broker working on it today to see what he can find in the US, but anyone here have anything I haven't thought of?

Is an 05 or 06 Platinum more value at $30K then a 07 at $45K? The Suburban at $35K worth it more then a $45K ESV? That's the way I am leaning.

Time is tight as I have to decide on this Suburban the next day or so and do the deal...its a great price and the color combo I want and has everything I would probably want other then nicer wheels, which can be fixed (22" GM OEM 8 spokes from the States I'm thinking), so I couldn't ask for more out of this Suburban, and would hate to pass it up now and end up looking for one down the road again, but not to find one with the options, colors and low miles this has....but in the end, its not a Cadillac, as you can all appreciate.

Sorry, I realize its personal opinion and personal preference and circumstance, but just need to vent, maybe some of you have been in similar situations.

Any advice or assistance would be appreciated.

09-25-08, 09:23 PM
Wow, lots of info there. Unfortunatly I cant help, never owned anything heavier then the CTS-V :)

Really be careful if resale is important to you. I work in the oilpatch and some (uninformed) people are trying to sell 1-2 year old 50k km trucks for same or more then a new one is these days. Deals on trucks are insane they're so paranoid they'll be stuck with them. Not sure if the deals are as good on new large SUV's.

09-25-08, 11:27 PM
I agreed with 4door, you are definitely in the drivers seat looking for an SUV these days. I was looking to replace my 2001 Z71. 1 year old trucks and demos are more money than new trucks. In the end, I decided to hold onto the truck since I am driving the V, other than in winter. I was on GM truck forums and there was a lot of people that were getting super deals for new. If you have already looked in the states for the Caddy and they aren't available at a good price I don't have much more to suggest. Just make sure to drive a hard bargain and enjoy the vehicle.

09-26-08, 01:35 AM
Thanks guys,
Yeah, sorry, a lot of info, as I said, I've been looking for months now and just have to come to closure soon, so turning anywhere for advice.

A truck or Avalanche won't do with 2 decent size dogs and most likely kids on the way.

Also, resale is of little value..the wife wants this to be over and done with for good. We just bought a new HHR SS in April, so this SUV will be the last vehcile we purchase for a while so I have to be happy with it, while keeping the budget in mind of course. As I said though, something has to happen within the next month or so before the snow really could hit, so I can't really wait 4 months for prices to drop more.

Haven't looked too much at anything new...I just assume for something like a Denali XL being $75K CDN MSRP, GM Canada likely isn't giving $30K cash back/discount...which $40K is the price I can get for a 07 Denali XL with only 16K KM's and over a year and a half left on the warranty. Haven't researched new in the US (we have relatives down there that could buy it new for us, we but it from them), but I assume the story is similar.
We only drive about 12K km a year in each vehicle, so used makes even more sense mileage and warranty wise.

The Denali is growing on me a little, but I still prefer the look of the Suburban, let alone the ESV. I know its the guts of the Denali that matter in the end, but the Denali/Yukon's bug me as they look too much like Envoy's..should've made the front end as agressive as their trucks.

ESV's are just that much rarer is appears which means the price is just that much more, here and in the US. There's 3 or 4 regular Escalade's looking at the used sites in the US, for every ESV.

Anyways, thanks again, I'll keep scowering the usual sites...the Suburban I had on hold is taking a bit longer to come in then expected, which gives me a few more days to decide if I want to keep it or pursue something else.

09-27-08, 01:41 AM
Okay, now I realize that the ESV is the Caddy suburban. I had it confused with the Avalanche version. I guess $40k for a one year old is a pretty good deal. Someone sure took a beating on it. Only concern with the Denali is they are full time 4 wheel drive so expect that to cost you a bit in mileage. Caddy is same.

12-10-08, 11:54 AM
E-Town, FTW.

12-23-08, 02:54 AM
You guys have trouble with your Caddy in the winter? Here in Calgary it's been in the -20's for a while and the roads can be icy. On power car seems to be good. Stopping is ok with normal precautions. Starting from stop, or accelerating can be tricky. I have new Dunlops and still the rear likes to swing.

I have heard contradicting opinions about sandbags in the trunk. Currently I have 75 lbs or so in the tire tub thing. Mine is 04 CTS-V.

12-23-08, 10:58 AM
i think you need to tape a block of wood under your gas pedal.!!

12-24-08, 01:41 PM
I don't have any trouble with my V in the winter. It doesn't slide at all. Of course that may be due to the fact that it is in the garage and will stay that way til the streets are nice and dry! I'm using my 2001 Z71 4X4 in auto 4wd. That gets around okay. Also bought a 1993 Ford Escort 5 spd for my daughter to use while she is here for a month. Great fun car to drive and cost me $400 and about $75 for repairs and I think I have it sold for mid January for $500!
My wifes 3.6CTS slides around all over and traction control is lit up a lot. I'm thinking maybe I should break down and buy some snow tires for it.

01-09-09, 07:51 PM
In the snow and ice I now don't press on the gas too much. Especially around a curve if I give it gas I might end up facing the car behind me. This is with 70 lbs of sand in the tire space.

01-14-09, 05:08 PM
Wow half the beyond guys are on here :)

Hey Alan :) what pressure are you running in the rear? Try dropping it about 2 psi and give that a whirl. It will help with the contact patch and hopefully help with getting the traction you need. Not too sure abou tthe power different but even my little V6 STS is very rear end happy this winter :)

02-21-09, 02:34 PM
I didn't know any Beyond users used this site, lol. Noone ever talks about Caddy's on there...

Me = 08 ESV Calgary

02-21-09, 02:39 PM
Pics of the ESV?

02-21-09, 02:41 PM
It's not done up or anything, just a typical 08 ESV fully loaded with the steps...

02-21-09, 02:55 PM
We need a Calgary Caddy meet! lol

02-21-09, 03:18 PM
Nice, what color?

I would definatly be down for a meet in Calgary :)

02-21-09, 03:22 PM
Black ofcourse!

02-21-09, 03:37 PM
Very nice :)

02-21-09, 04:39 PM
It's too bad that I don't see too many young Cadillac drivers around...

02-21-09, 04:43 PM
There is a few of us :) The new body styles have brought quite a bit more attention from the young guys so hopefully things will change. But GM getting rid of the V series isn't going to help.

02-21-09, 04:54 PM
Every once in a while I'll be on Mcloud and run across one or two, but its super rare...

Around the S.E. here, there's a few guys I always see rolling around in another 08 ESV, but they got it chromed up the ying yang with aftermarket mods... It's pretty sexy, never had a chance to chat with them though...

02-21-09, 05:17 PM
What do you guys think about these wheels on my car?

More pictures @ http://allgonshow.info/

02-21-09, 06:18 PM
Nice rims, but I wouldn't be the person to ask... I'm more into the fuller looking rims...

02-24-09, 12:24 AM
We need a Calgary Caddy meet! lol

Gotta be aftre the city does street cleaning of the winter gravel.... mayish I think it is. I've only taken my car out 3 times since the snow fell. And the last was to go get it washed, but it didnt make it home clean :banghead:

02-24-09, 06:43 PM
I am up for a meet since I drive it in the winter. Not too fun on icy or cold cold weather. Was sweet couple weeks ago when roads were dry.

02-24-09, 08:01 PM
Well how many Cadillac owners are there on these forums?

What would everyone be down for???

We could round everyone up one afternoon and head out for cocktails at a place like Seven, or somewhere Stephen Ave? (Take up all the parking spots, Mwhaha).

02-27-09, 01:50 PM

02-27-09, 02:00 PM
I'd be down for Coffee/Cruise type deal.

02-27-09, 11:55 PM
The V isn't going anywhere. Now that GM has the V2 out, they will make as many as people will buy. Now if you want to talk about the V3, then you may be correct, development work has probably stopped until the next boom.
I'd be interested a group meeting for coffee. Don't want to go downtown, spent enough of my life on 7th Ave when my daughter worked at the Met. (picking up and dropping off)

03-02-09, 11:50 AM
Cruise to banff!

03-02-09, 12:22 PM
Cruise to Banff would be nice. Do they have any nice Coffee shops like Deville or anything?
Maybe some Belgium pastry like Manual Latruwe?

03-02-09, 01:36 PM
No idea, havn't been down there in forever...

03-02-09, 02:52 PM
I say we go somewhere that has lot of pretty single ladies. 4 Caddy pulls up and they expect 60 year olds but instead see 4 bachelors :-).

03-02-09, 02:56 PM
I'm down, just let me know ahead of time to leave the gf at home :)

03-02-09, 04:04 PM
I guess you won't be wanting me then. I'm almost 60! and married for longer than you guys have been here. I do have 2 single daughters, but they are in Texas. Also, it has been my experience from the daughters, that most women don't care what car you have....they will dislike you just because you are you! (I mean "you" as in the generic guy term)

03-02-09, 05:08 PM
Well we better just keep it at basic coffee :)

03-02-09, 05:13 PM
Funny stuff :P

Bring whoever you guys want. Age has nothing to do with it. We need to get some more Caddilacs out though...

03-08-09, 01:49 PM
Anyone out and about in that storm last night?

03-08-09, 04:20 PM
I pulled up to my place just as it was starting. Did not look liek to much fun, couple freinds said seeing 5ft infront fo them was a challange sometimes.

03-10-09, 04:39 PM
That night it happened, I was out and about heading to a birthday party in the north... I'm from the south...

Just when it kicked in I was on 14th St. It was nuts... a Caddy SRX infront of me lost control for a few seconds, without even breaking or accelerating... It was awesome... You know, as heavy as my vehicle is, and with the traction control system, it still surprised me to see small little subaru's flying around doing speed limit or faster into blindness loosing control everytime they hit a bend in the road...

03-10-09, 05:50 PM
ahahah the SRX was probably having a mini heart attack right after.

Sorry about all the Subaru's, we modified most of the them in the city and now they are all race car drivers it seems? Oh well what can you do.

03-15-09, 05:59 PM
He guys!

I am in Calgary, rolling in a 2005 ESV Diamond Pearl.;)

03-16-09, 11:18 AM
He guys!

I am in Calgary, rolling in a 2005 ESV Diamond Pearl.;)

I've probably seen you! I've only ever seen maybe one or two Diamond pearl 05 ESVs, lol.

Around the south?

03-21-09, 09:23 PM
Yay for a quick bit of spring. Got the car dirty yesterday/today.... forgot how crappy traction is on sticky tires that are rock hard... and tonight comes winter again :(

03-23-09, 02:16 PM
Got mine out Sat morning, went to store and bought oil. Did oil change on both Caddies and weather was cold already. Put the V back for more sleep.
Did go over to GSL to look at new V, it had Recaro seats. It was all locked up with signs not to touch! No sales people around either so I left.

03-23-09, 02:26 PM
Went all the way to GSL when Jack Carter just moved into your 'hood ? :)

03-23-09, 10:11 PM
lol... Jack carter is like a 2 minute walk from my house...

if you guys around that area, you've probably seen me drive around...

06-19-09, 01:54 PM
Hey I am testing the water with my 2004 CTS-V. Don't really want a winter car and the Caddy so thinking I should get a car that is good all year.

Edmonton here

06-27-09, 05:24 PM
Edmonton here also!

07-01-09, 02:17 AM
Popped by GSL today and came very close to inking a deal for a V2. So, I'm testing the waters on my '06 STS-V. Perfect condition.

Price is negotiable.

07-01-09, 10:04 AM
^ Can vouch 100% for this car, absolutly perfect condition. Wonder if GSL/my lease guy can do something for me to get into your car ;)

07-01-09, 02:34 PM
I'd gladly come down in price to see you drive off in her! Seriously. Give it some thought dude.

07-01-09, 06:19 PM
I definatly will, thanks Rick :)

07-01-09, 11:05 PM
I agree, that STS-V is beautiful.

07-05-09, 02:02 AM
In a drastic turn of events, we ended up parting with our '09 Pontiac G8 GT and picking up an '09 Audi Q7. After some thought, spending $70k on a car that I can only use 3-4 months a year ('09 CTS-V) just didn't make a lot of sense, so I will be keeping my STSV! Perfect compromise imo. Wife is happy because she now has a vehicle that will give her some confidence in all weather conditions. So, the V is off the market!

07-05-09, 02:36 AM
Good decision. The Audi is nice and yeah if it was another city where you can drive the car 8 months of the year it would have been a different story. Enjoy the new wheels.

07-05-09, 01:14 PM
Nice choice with the Q7. Alot of our customers have been very very happy with their Q7's so I'm sure she will like it. If you slel the V in a few years, it'll be perfect for me ;) Enjoy the new ride Rick!

07-06-09, 11:43 AM
Thanks guys. We are pretty happy with the decision. We have a year-round daily driver and I get to keep my summer toy! Couldn't be better!

02-24-13, 10:48 AM

05-14-13, 01:39 AM
(shudder) NE,

-4yrs since I last posted in this thread..... still got the V, barely driven. Think I'm up to 28k km. Waiting on my 2nd vehicle to come out of Davenport and the V goes in for TLC on the blower, she makes some noise, got a larger snout/tb for it too.

08-19-13, 04:35 PM
Hey everyone

I'm from Calgary too

05-15-14, 12:10 PM

06-23-14, 05:07 PM

09-15-14, 07:10 AM
Yep I am from Taber,Alberta and I own a 1986 Cadillac Eldorado with the 4.1 v8 engine.

12-27-14, 12:06 PM

New member / owner here in Red Deer ... Just bought a minty 2004 DTS for a daily. I really lucked out with it. One owner , full service records.
Love this car so much I am thinking about parking it for winter and getting another caddy as a winter beater for my winter beater lol
Full load minus night vision , pearl white , and just needs tint now.
Trying to revive an old thread and hope to hear from some of ya !

03-28-17, 10:49 PM
I'm in Airdrie, just outside of Calgary with a 2017 XT5. I think I'm the only one in this town..a few SRX's but not many
