Just curious if any one knows if and what the electronic parking brake situation is and if it will be available before 2009 and on what variants? If this has been mentioned in another thread, my apologies.

Thanks:thumbsup:

It won't come to the 08s. Too much involved to try and change it now. They'll do it for the 09s when the factories shut down in July for product changeover.

Correct not before 09.. and even then only for the V series and for the Manual Trans CTS.

Different parking brakes for '09 CTS manual and automatic transmission models? First time I've heard that one. Illogical, in my opinion. Are you a GM insider with firsthand knowledge?

Yeah, I'm curious about this as well.

That seems like a very complicated option variation. Does anyone who works for Cadillac/ GM know if this actually how it will play out?

And Chewtoy, my apologies in advance if you do work for either Cadillac or GM and know first hand. If so, could you give some more details?

This is one of the items that is holding back my purchase of the car sooner.

Thanks again!

I agree. There original intention was to have it on all 09 CTS manual and auto, but they scrubbed it for auto. I don't know why. I work with electronics engineers at GM.

I asked if I could retrofit my '08 with the EPB but they short answer was no. Too many software changes, etc. After all the IP is already there (just below the shifter).

Why would you even want it. I can't remember the last time I used the emergency brake in an automatic. Unless you live in San Francisco.

chewwtoy, I had wondered about that earlier too. I have a manual trans. Do you think retrofitting a manual would involve fewer (or no) software changes?

Plane and simple it isn't possible.. The EPB is connected to the vehicles network(s) and requires certain messages to be properly formated. Because of this, you can't simply retrofit it. Other modules have to run the correct version of software...
