View Full Version : Annoying LOUD Nav Chime

I like everything about the CTS Nav except the annoying loud chime that goes off at each turn. Is there a way to shut that particular feature off? Or at least turn it way down in relation to the volume of the voice commands? Thx.

I'd like to know if this is possible too.

Voice Volume
Touch the Voice Volume screen button to change the volume of the voice prompts or to turn the voice prompts on and off.

Master Volume Level: Touch the + (plus) or - (minus) screen buttons to increase or to decrease the volume of all voice categories.

Voice Guidance: Touch to turn voice instructions on and off while traveling on a planned route. Voice guidance is on when the button is highlighted.

Traffic Event Voice Prompt: Touch to turn traffic voice instructions on and off. Traffic voice is on when the button is highlighted.

Speech Recognition Prompt: Touch to turn speech recognition prompts on and off. Speech prompts are on when the button is highlighted.

Speech Confirmation Feedback: Touch to turn speech confirmation feedback on and off. Speech feedback is on when the button is highlighted.

Appreciate the screenshot and instructions, but it seems to me that all that
does is increase/decrease the speech volume and does nothing to eliminate
that "bong." I still don't have a CTS yet, but that was the most negative part
of my test drive.

As soon as you hear the chime hit the "Repeat" (RPT) button to hear it again. When it is playing (Chiming) hit the Volume Down button on your steering wheel. You can adjust the volume up or down using the controls on the steering wheel of the NAV voice or the chime as they are playing. After a few adjustments you will have them set exactly where you want them.

Ooh. Good advice. I take it that under those guidelines you
can turn the volume totally down on the "bong."

Will try it.

The "bong" volume can be adjusted just like the voice...

It only chimes one time, I guess you have to be pretty fast to turn it down.

I haven't had any problems adjusting it.

Thanks for the info, next time I use the Nav I'll give it a try. I don't want the voice turned down, just that gong.

LFG,

Get back to us on this. Thanks!

Tried it and both the voice and gong go down (or up). It appears you can't separate the two. It can be annoying, but not too bad.

I tried it as well. It seems to me that earlier posters were incorrect. I concur with OneLapCoastie - I cannot adjust them separately. That's really too bad. The chime is, as I said when I started this thread, LOUD and annoying.

Maybe my car is special. I can adjust the volume of the two separately and easily.

Hoo-boy!

Seems like we have a group of people that say you cannot adjust the volumes
separately and another few that say the volumes can be adjusted independently
of each other.

Personally I would love to give you guys the definitive answer as I'd spend some
time playing with it, but I don't get my car till Monday and I can't get back to you
on this till Tuesday.

In the meantime it would be well worth to keep this thread going and hope that
more of you have the opportunity to try and resolve this problem and come up
with the definitive answer.

I would refer to these instructions posted earlier...

As soon as you hear the chime hit the "Repeat" (RPT) button to hear it again.
When it is playing (Chiming) hit the Volume Down button on your steering wheel. You
can adjust the volume up or down using the controls on the steering wheel of the NAV
voice or the chime as they are playing. After a few adjustments you will have them
set exactly where you want them.

Going to my son's today, I'll give it a try and see what happens.

WHOA, so you can adjust the CHIME independently of the nav voice? No way, thank you sooooooo much, i love you! I totally can't stand that chime and that just made my day!!!

Tried this today. It does not work! The "ding" follows voice commands levels......

So far, more people are saying it doesn't work.

Let's keep this thread going. I finally get my car today
so by tonight I'll be able to post my own experiences in
trying to adjust the volume levels.

I tried it on the way to Easter dinner yesterday, and ended up driving myself crazy....I couldn't separate the two...

Looks like a no-go. Sadly. I will try it on my vehicle
later tonight but I expect no better experience.

Tried it several times this morning on a 2 hour + trip and I could not adjust the chime independent of the Navi voice volume. Another data point on this is if you adjust the Navi voice volume using the config buttom then voice volume. Every time you move the slider you get the chime sound at the newly adjusted volume so at least on my rig the two or unfortunately linked.

The fix does not work for me. All adjustments affect both voice and chime. I find it extremely annoying and would pay for a solution. A half a solution, also annoying, is to turn off voice guidance on the master screen. You will still get voice directions each time you push the report button but you will have to do that each time you want an instruction or an update, probably taking your eyes off the road and if you forget you are past the turnoff (even with the visuals).

Build Dates, folks, post your Build Dates.

tried this myself, both the voice and chime run on the same volume setting. I like the fact that the volume can be adjusted while driving without going thru the touch screen menus. but it would be nice to set the chime separately. build date 11/07.

Gee, the BONG on the Nav is almost as irritating as the BONG on this very website when the advertising banner comes up that says "Congratulations, you are the 1,000,000 visitor, click to win your prize!" :bigroll:

I can't stand the bong either, especially when you accidentally knock it off the coffee table and the water spills out and ashes get all over everything and... what a second.

WRONG FORUM!

And wrong decade, for that matter.

Never mind.

Relax, the head unit is an Alpine, and I have everyone I know with Alpine connections working on a hack. It just takes time!
