View Full Version : Switched Power Wires Anywhere? With every car I have owned finding a switched circuit to tap a +12V item such as a radar detector was a piece of cake. With the STS I dont see any wires in the dash area that run only in accessory position. It looks like every part in this car is always hot and it turns on and off from GMLAN commands... Am I missing something here? STScadillac99 03-18-08, 09:49 PM Tom,
i hardwired a sirius satellite starbase receiver in my car and couldnt find a switched wire under the dash to save my life. i eventually went right to the underhood fuse box on the right front of the engine bay. i found a switched fuse. i bought one of those piggy-back fuse holders and jumped off that. i even have the factory workshop manuals for the car and couldnt find anything in there to help. if you need to know which one it is, let me know i can look or even snap a pic.... only prob is when i turn off the car and dont open the door, my radio keeps playing (til i open the door) but the satellite receiver shuts of as soon as i turn off the car... I have looked at schematics for over an hour and I am amazed that everything in this vehicle stays hot in a sleep mode until it see's a command on the GMLAN bus to call for it to activate.
I was hoping to find something in the vehicle but if I have to tap into the fuse box there are choices under the rear seat but just did not want to run wires back there.. BMBSALES 03-19-08, 12:57 PM Tom,

yeah, if you do a search, i believe i posted pics and part #'s for this exact thing. might be in escalade posts. STScadillac99 03-19-08, 02:33 PM i tried under the backseat first. i did this about a year ago, so i dont remember why, but i couldnt seem to find any there that worked. i know i tried there first though... if you find something let me know... Bee iLL 03-19-08, 02:54 PM I used the fuse box under my back seat to power my k40. There was actually an open socket that switched off, so I was able to use a pigtail fuse (http://www.sportsimportsltd.com/20amppimiatc.html) and called it a day. Looks like any Pink wire in the connector to the fuse panels in the rear are ignition switched. I do not however know which fuses themselves to tap into but I guess it will have to be trial and error. I just wish there was something in the dash I can tap into...
If you leave the dome lights on in the STS do they turn off automatically after 20 minutes? If so maybe those are just powered with a delayed off. Reading Lamps
The reading lamps are located on the overhead console. These lamps come on automatically when any door is opened.
For manual operation, press the button next to each lamp to turn it on. Press it again to turn the lamp off. If the reading lamps are left on, they automatically shut off 10 minutes after the ignition has been turned off.
Inadvertent Power Battery Saver
This feature is designed to protect your vehicle’s battery against drainage from the interior lamps, trunk lamp, glove box lamp, or the garage door opener. When the ignition is turned off, the power to these features will automatically turn off after 10 minutes (three minutes if a new car has 15 miles (24 km) or less). Power will be restored for an additional 10 minutes if any door is opened, the trunk is opened or the courtesy lamp switch is turned on. blunted 03-19-08, 05:39 PM I just did a nice and easy install of my V1 last night.. I used an cord that I got from this place http://www.invisicord.com/ and it basically just plugs into the back of your rearview mirror harness. It only turns on when the ignition is on.. so I think that might be what your looking for. Which pin did you tap it on in the mirror connector? Never mind... Pink wire in Pin 15... I should have guessed pink since every switched wire I found in the rear panels was always pink as I mentioned above. blunted 03-19-08, 06:29 PM U got it.. it was a pink and a black.
I forgot to add... it is a BEAUTIFUL thing to not have that friggin wire hanging down my center console!! I think you found what you were looking for but what about the wipers. They seem to turn off with the acc and not "sleep". With the rain sense I have had them stop in the middle of a wipe when opening the driver door in my garage after turning off the ignition. I have no idea where the tap would be; just a thought. I needed it for my radar detector which will be mounted right next to the rear view mirror so I could not ask for a better tap. If I mounted it anywhere else I would have to run a wire across the headliner and down the side pillar... |
