One of the things that drives me nutty when sorting my music is that iTunes, Music Match, etc., have a ton of various genre classifications and make matters worse by letting you define your own. This makes sorting by format or genre a little more complex and confusing than it needs/ought to be.

My question is this: Does the Gracenote database contain genre information along with the title/artist info? Will it override or insert the proper genre info into the selection database if the genre field is incorrect or missing genre info altogether?

I'm hoping the answer is yes. That would make sorting my music library by genre a little more sensible.

Yes, it has the Genre classification. I dunno how it handles a CD with no genre

From my experience so far, and I'm still learning this thing, the Gracenote only added the tag information on the CD's I loaded. The mp3's and itunes etc. which had a multitude of genre info, loaded to the HDD with that info. I had the same trouble sorting as you, so I deleted the mp3's from the HDD and then manually edited the genre info on my pc to reduce the number of genre's. I then reloaded them to the HDD. My streamlined genre's were not overwritten by Gracenote.

Maybe there is as better way that someone else can share with us.

Ah, that's what I was after, thanks. Anyone know of a way to quickly remove ALL the mp3 content from the HDD if I wish? Right now, the single song at a time removal is extremely slow. It takes roughly 4 seconds to transfer a song into the HDD, and about 20 seconds to remove one. Kinda weird in that way...

There is an option on mine to clear the entire HDD (I do not have the Nav) but you may not want to do that. I deleted each genre that I wanted to change. That is easier than one song at a time.
