I had my Q-jet rebuilt a few years back and it ran great, but stated acting up again, so I have decided to get a new one, instead of messing with the old one. I tried Guaranteed Carbs, but they do not have any in stock. I would like to stay with a Q-jet, so any leads would be appreciated.

The best thing to do is have it rebuild again... there are many interchangable parts in them so they can be set up for many different motors.. you now have all the right parts .. Look for someone who knows what they are doing..

If it has been sitting for awhile the primary power piston is most likley stuck. In most cases you can see it by looking down the vent tube, then poke at it with a small screwdriver. you should be able to push it down against the spring and it will spring back up.
The Qjet is very vacuum sensitive. Make sure you don't have any Vac leaks.

Check autozone.com Holley rebuilds the q-jet. It runs $153 and $35 core.

I think the lower body itself is leaking through the soft plugs and is draining the gas after it is shut off and then pours it into the intake when it is idling, which is why I want a whole different carb, with a different body...

Those soft plugs should be epoxied during a rebuild but if you can get one of those carbs John mentioned for 153, then that is very reasonable.
