Was spending my days and nights to have Zaino day over the weekend. Seems like detailing is not my thing.. better get someone to do it next time :lildevil:.

Anyway, so I left my fob in the laundry room and went to the garage. I didn't lock the car, so I went on the car and tried to start it w/o the fob out of curiosity, the display panel showed that "electronic key not found" or sth similar but I also heard that the HDD started. So this question immediately popped up in my mind.. does the HDD control the starting or anything related to the fob...keyless entrance...anything that has to do with locking, unlocking, starting, remote starting the car, sensor that sensing the fob..etc and so on :helpless:??

If so, can a person hack, interfere, control (or any word you would like to use) the HDD, and then start the car (*keyless style*) without the fob :ill:? OR in case if the HDD is out of order, will you still be able to enter or start the car :bomb:? How about in terms of remote start?

hacking is usually a big thing in the high tech world.. but not much to the auto industry. i might be a little sensitive when it comes to high-tech since it is related to what i do.. bare with me a little here ;).

I do not think HDD controls the engine and car entry. So hacking the HDD will get you............hm...........to the multimedia :)

Honestly? If a trained thief wants to steal your car, the last thing they'll be messing around with is the HDD....I'm sure that they know how to start the car and drive away in 30 seconds without touching the HDD. So I wouldn't worry about it...

The hard drive doesnt control anything, its just the storage device for the infotainment system. You probably also heard your DVD drive spin up and the radio's cooling fans start. Its nothing to worry about, no one is going to hack your car. Forget that last part we are talking about Windows here and i havent seen SP1 for Windows Automotive yet lol.

Similar things happen in DVD nav systems (like on my SRX). Basically the system is "booting" as soon as it knows it might be used to keep startup time to a minimum.

I know the hard drive doesn't control the key fob on my car because I don't have a HDD. The radio probably fired up (even if the display was still dark) when the ignition went to accessory.

If you wrap your HDD in aluminum foil, it will be impervious to alien attack.

Oh wait, that's not what you asked - nm.

You should wrap it with magnets - the more powerful the better.

You can easily install a device that could Unlock and start your car.. but then you would need access to the inside of the car somehow. But starting the car is one thing. If you have an immobilizer then you won't drive anywhere...
