View Full Version : Buying an 05' STS4 TOMORROW! HELP! rjgill84 03-18-08, 01:03 AM OK...the options on the STS are super confusing! Im 99% sure Im going to purchase this vehicle tomorrow...so sure that they took the car off the eBay auction and put a sold sign on it, lol...so I need to know a bit more about my purchase!!
The listing says STS AWD...and the car itself says STS4 when I test drove it..so I guess its AWD. CarFax claims its RWD. wtf?? Also...it claims to have the 1SG package...but I dont know. Does 1SG include magnetic suspension and HID? Those are requirements for me. I wish it had ACC and HUD...:(
The dealer quoted me a price of $25,200 including tax, title, and fees. Do you guys think this is a good deal...or could I do better?? Heres the car:

Whats the price your paying for the vehicle itself? (Before taxes, fee's etc..) I'm not an expert, but I would say you are going to spend a few dollars on new tires. The closeup does not look good. It shows a bit of uneven wear. Besides it has 45K+ miles. The OEM tires sucked new let alone with that many miles. Factor this into the price.
I think there is a place where you can enter the VIN and get a full description of the vehicle, but for the life of me I can't recall the thread that talked about it.
Hope it all works out for you. You will love the car. dhemrick 03-18-08, 11:42 AM If I am looking at the pictures correctly on eBay, it looks like your right headlight has some condensation in it. MAKE THEM REPLACE THIS before you buy it! Once that seal is messed up, it cannot be fixed.
Our local dealer messed up our headlight on the 06 STS4 when replacing a bulb, and it had water in it from then on. They couldn't fix it and ended up replacing the whole headlight assembly.
We have basically this same car except in all black and with the heads up/adaptive cruise control option which this one does not appear to have. The buy it now price seems to be within reason for an 05 equipped as such with that number of miles. If you get it for a little less and they fix the headlight, then I would say go for it. Car should still be under warranty so shouldn't it be fixed under warranty anyway? eightshb 03-18-08, 03:38 PM Just like mine but in black. I don't know where you live but if you get lots of snow plan on a winter set of tires also. These )5's have an open transfer case and it does'nt kick in to you are fish tailing. I would tell the dealer that it needs some new skins as those tires are near the end. I also have the 1sg with the spoiler and STS4 AllWheelEric 03-18-08, 07:49 PM You're not the first to observe a carfax report that states RWD when the car is AWD. I had that too. Don't sweat it.
That car looks like 1SG. Those wheels are part of the 1SG package, but could have been added later (unlikely).
If you want to be 100% sure, look in the trunk in the spare tire compartment for a sticker with a lot of 3-character "build codes" on it. One of the codes should be 1SG. AllWheelEric 03-18-08, 07:51 PM Oh, and yes, 1SG includes HID and magnetic ride control. These are also included in 1SF. being that you're buying it from a GM dealer, ask them to provide you the GMVIS build sheet on the car and it will explain all the options it has. Onalaska 03-18-08, 11:01 PM Consider paying extra for a certified preowned warranty if it's a GM dealer. pjbizjak 03-19-08, 10:54 AM Usually GM won't certify a car with over 36K mi. dmarlowe 03-19-08, 01:52 PM Mine was Cadillac certified with 45K on it so that may be an option. It is basically an extension of the bumper to bumper warranty where as the GM cert only covers certain items. Playdrv4me 03-21-08, 07:19 PM Usually GM won't certify a car with over 36K mi.
That would be kind of absurd, every major manufacturer's luxury line's certification requirements allow cars between 60-75k miles to be certified pre owned, so I highly doubt Cadillac does not follow the same logic. |
