In my 06 Vette I can set the seat so that when the ignition is off (or when the door opens) the seat travels all the way back. I cannot get this function to work on the CTS. I have read the instructions and done all the stuff requested but it still doesn't work....

You might try a search. It seems like there was a thread about this subject a while back. BTW, I have an 08 Corvette as well and should have a new CTS to go with it sometime this week.

This function is on the Gen 1 CTS so I'm sure it's on yours.

It's in the manual but I believe you also have to do something with the button on the door between the "1" and "2" memory buttons....the button in the middle sets the exit position IIRC

You set it up in the Driver Information Center to operate automatically when the door opens. You should also be able to do it manually by pressing the easy out button located between the #1 and #2 memory seat buttons on the door panel.

It actually goes way too far back for me and makes it difficult to get out of the car without leaning around the B pillar for an assist.

Yeah. The driver's seat exit position only goes all the way back, in contradiction of the owners manual instructions: "Adjust the driver's seat to the desired exit position. Press and hold the exit button located above buttons 1 and 2 on the driver's door armrest for at least three seconds. Two beeps sound to confirm that the exit position has been saved." The exit position malfunction is further confirmed by the owners manual: "If an exit postion has not been stored for this driver, the seat moves all the way back."

My dealer and I wasted a lot of time trying to make the damn thing work. And, as far as I know, GM still has not officially acknowledged this factory-installed F*** UP.

I've set my exit position to "OFF."

What is the build date of your CTS?
apparently GM wanted to put a settable exit feature in the 2008 CTS and printed it in the manual, then decided to make it a fixed position. mine was built 11/07 and it is fixed but I can turn the automatic exit on or off through the DIC. page 1-7 has wrong info. also see pg.3-76 (this shows the park tilt mirrors too). you have to select which items are moved.

The biggest letdown for my wife and I is that the driver's settings must be manually recalled by pressing the button. It should sense which fob is sitting in the driver's seat and automatically move the steering, seats and mirrors into the correct position when the column key is turned in order to drive the vehicle and then move back to easy exit preset mode when the key is turned off or the door is opened. I mean, this is really basic, ergonomic 101 stuff. My 8-year-old Jag S-Type works this way and it makes infinite sense. I know I shouldn't have to gripe about "pushing a button" (sounds pretty lazy), but it's just tough to get into the habit of having to push the memory setting button after years of not having to worry about that extra step before driving off.

I thought it did. since I am the only driver I haven't tried this lately but I remember the manual specifying driver #1 and driver #2 with the implication that the fobs are identified. I started an entire thread about it.
check into the DIC options. there may be some dependence on which options are on the vehicle too (such as power tele/tilt wheel).
edit: page 3-78, the memory is recalled with remote unlock if that option is turned on.

I have a brand new cts4 and the easy exit does not make the seat go all the way back. I have it set to only go back part way. Also with the fob, did you program through the slot in the center console?

excellent. what build date? see sticker at bottom rear of driver door opening.
just to make sure - you did the sequence of setting a seat position, then hold down the exit button until it beeps 2x. then the exit position always goes to that setting, not all the way?
wow. mine (11/07) does not accept an exit setting. goes only allthewayback.
the fobs I got are marked #1 and #2. assume they are programmed as such.

My salesman programed our car when the wife and I were there. Her exit position is different then my exit position. Her's only goes about halfway back. Also her steering wheel exit and her drive position are different then mine.

My build date was the week of Feb 25th. There is an insert in the manual about the seats and the memory.
You can program the fobs through the slot in the center console if you think they are not programmed right.

Can you give us a little more detail on what the insert has to say? I know about the slot in the center console.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the info. But here's my original problem:
I can set the seat back manually to where I want it to go, and then push the middle button on the door. The damn thing only beeps ONCE! And of course it doesn't remember a thing..........
I have read and re-read the manual. I have done the drill with the ignition on and off, with the engine running and off. I have done it with the key out. I have done it with the door open and closed....
We LOVE the car. We bought the second one primarily to get the automatic memory seats. The car knows how to get us into the driving position each of us wants........ But the seat will not slide back when we want to get out the door! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please explain about the "slot" in the center console. I haven't heard this discussed before. BTW.... I can't set my exit position either!

You can program Easy Exit to do or not to do several things (push the wheel back OR NOT, pull back the seats OR NOT). Have you checked that Easy Exit is on the right setting?

Manual, page 3-77:

Easy Exit Setup
If your vehicle has this feature, it allows you to select
which areas will recall with the automatic easy exit seat
feature. It also allows you to turn off the automatic
easy exit feature. See Memory Seat and Mirrors
on page 1-6 and “Easy Exit Recall” earlier for more
information.
Press the customization button until Easy Exit Setup
appears on the DIC display. Press the set/reset button
once to access the settings for this feature. Then
press the menu up/down button to scroll through the
following settings:
Off: No automatic seat exit will recall.
Seat Only: The driver’s seat will recall.
Tilt Only: The steering wheel tilt feature will recall.
Telescope Only: The steering column telescope
feature will recall.
Seat/Tilt: The driver’s seat and the steering wheel tilt
feature will recall.
Seat/Telescope: The driver’s seat and the steering
column telescope feature will recall.
Tilt/Telescope: The steering wheel tilt and steering
column telescope features will recall.
All (default): The driver’s seat and the steering wheel
tilt and steering column telescope features will recall,
if your vehicle has this option.

Every other car with memory seats works this way.
Cadillac winning the Cnet cpmpetition with this pre-historic memory seat implementation is the one thing that truly upsets me about the car.
Obviously the Cnet competition (for most technologically advanced automobile) is a joke. Regardless of how you feel about the NAV, etc..... this memory seat issue(s) should have disqualified the CTS from the competition.

Yes, I am a bit mad at myself also.

I read about half the complaints on this board with total amusement. I cannot understand how people can drive the car for months and then decide the A pillar is in the way........ for instance. And there are many other examples.......
Did it change since the test drive?
Why do people take a test drive if not to discover design flaws (from their POV)?

BUT I have to admit that I just "assumed" that Cadillac could build a Memory seat that equaled my cheap ass, 5 year old Nissan (a NISSAN, for God's sake)

Grrrrrrrrrr.:rant2:
