Here is a '98 Cadillac SLS, just in case you have never seen one. There's a dearth of pictures of them here at CF...

So...the Amigo only runs when it has an unpainted grill guard? I would have thought it would be the reverse...you have to paint the grill guard and then the engine will fire right up.

Then again, I had a Corvair that ran great while it was primered (most of its life with me) and when I finally painted it, 2 days later the jesus belt flew off into the fan and the fan exploded, sending fragments everywhere - engine ceased to run.

Umm....anyway.

Maybe I should hit it with primer again....

I think the paint adds too much additional weight for the engine, and the engine fails out of stress or partially fails as part of an attempt at overall self-preservation.

Do NOT simply spray over the paint with primer - the engine sensors will detect this and the engine will not work.

Strip the grill guard down to bare metal and then primer. Your grill guard will be protected from the elements and your engine will be able to handle the load.

Strip the grill guard down to bare metal and then primer. Your grill guard will be protected from the elements and your engine will be able to handle the load.

What if I just remove the grille guard? Then I can install the factory tow hook again....

Maybe with such a drastic change the whole engine will put itself back together and it'll run

In California there is a law forbidding people from washing cars in their underwear - $75.00 fine. Washing cars in South Park boxer shorts gets you that same fine and 40 hours of community service.
