Interesting. I max'd out the storage capacity in the HDD as mentioned in a different thread. Today, the HDD option was dimmed out as my wife was leaving for the market and the HDD was not functioning. So I tried switching to it with a verbal command and was told that option was not available. When she got back, it seemed to "heal" itself, the HDD option was no longer dimmed and suddenly it was working again. What now? :bigroll:

I had a similar experience with XM (twice recently). XM stops working, the tab grays out, and when I tried to check the traffic and weather I was told I had to subscribe to XM for the receiver "<>" (the receiver number was missing, just the "<>" appeared). After the car sat for awhile all was well again. I think the NAV/Audio system has too many things trying to start up when it initializes, and sometimes some of them don't make the startup and disappear (gray out tabs, etc.). This whole thing is now a computer afterall. Thoughts anybody?

I do have one theory... If the battery gets drained past a certain point, all kinds of weird stuff can happen.

I'd agree. I usually don't turn the radio off when I shut the car off. Sometimes when I've left it on XM, when I get back to the car and start it, the radio turns on by itself (since I left it on) but nothing comes from the speakers. After about 30 seconds, it will switch itself from XM to FM and begin to function normally. If I want the XM on, I just switch it back.

Of course, as I mentioned in another thread, I also had the front speakers die on me once but heal the next morning. That was the most concerning issue so far.

Sounds like a (Microsoft) O/S problem to me. When does Service Pack 1 for Windows Automotive 5.0 come out? (half joking)

My '05 STS would do this at times on XM; would 'come back to life' after the ignition was shut off. It sounds like a soft ware glitch of some short (too bad the system doesn't run Mac OSX!)

Oh well, the good news at least, is that there are always plenty of other audio options available at any given time. Not that this excuses the malfunctions by any stretch, but at least the suffering is kept to a minimum. Speaking of XM, is there a way to just keep the traffic and wx info and forego the rest of the service? I'm not sure that having XM is really worth it for me considering I prefer listening to my own music 95% of the time.

Then the iPod integration would be bulletproof! (but nothing else would be supported)

Also twice a year a new Mac Auto OS would be launched that would not be compatible with any CTS manufactured 6 months prior. :bonkers:
