View Full Version : Locked out! Musicman 03-16-08, 12:34 PM I took my car to the car wash in which an attendant drives your car onto the track and the car goes through the line empty. I pay for the wash and as I come to the end of the line, my car was in the driveway approach. The owner then tells me that they had to push my car to the approach because they were locked out of the car with the keys in the ignition. Thank God for Onstar as they unlocked the car in two minutes. I thought there was a "failsafe" feature that prevented this.......? Any answers? No failsafe as far as I know---that's what onstar is for. I would have been out of luck because I usually leave my cell in the car---duh! NJRonbo 03-16-08, 12:51 PM If I understand this correctly, you get out of the car (unlocking the door to do so)
and with the car running and keys in the ignition, the car locks itself once the door
is closed.
That's very odd that the car would do this. On my Acura, I programmed the
doors to lock upon putting the car in DRIVE, but once the door is unlocked
with the car running it will not relock.
Personally, if concerned about this happening again, maybe it would be
best to program the car not to automatically lock the door? Musicman 03-16-08, 01:28 PM Actually, the attendant at the beginning of the line turns the car off and an attendant at the end of the line gets in and restarts the car. The car was locked at that point and had to be pushed out. Could the guy who pulled the car in the line have hit the key fob? NJRonbo 03-16-08, 05:27 PM It's impossible for me to comment further as I don't even own my CTS yet.
However, based on my Acura, as long as the key fob is inside the vehicle,
it should never lock you out. That's what I learned to love most about key
fobs -- as prior to owning one, I always locked my keys in the car. Crackerzot 03-16-08, 06:38 PM With the keyless ignition option, it is impossible to be locked out of the car if the fob is left inside while it is running... If I recall what I read in the manual correctly. NJRonbo 03-17-08, 01:09 PM Yeah, make sense.
Essentially, however, it would be alarming to learn that you
can stop the CTS, get out, close the door and have it lock with
the Fob inside. That should never happen. It would never happen
with my Acura and I hope to God that it doesn't happen on the CTS. Yeah, make sense.

It never happened with my '92 DeVille, my '99 DeVille, or even my '99 Trans-Am. If the key was in the ignition the doors would not lock. Not sure about my '05 CTS-V, I never tried it, but I assumed it would not lock either. Guess I'll have to check it out tonight with my spare fob.
On a side note, a friend of mine with a brabd-new '08 CTS was locked out of her car totally one morning. Key fob was in her hand, no keys in the ignition. Car would not open with key fob or manually with the key itself. The only way it opened was via On-Star. She took a trip to the dealer and they re-programmed "something", she said. Musicman 03-17-08, 05:33 PM Well NIK, it never happened in any other car I've owned. I am going to the dealer to have it checked out. I'll keep you all posted as to what happens. Musicman Musicman 03-20-08, 03:16 PM I went to the dealer and they could find nothing wrong. I couldn't get the car to lock up in my driveway. A fluke? I hope so. The exact same thing happened to me in a similar carwash 2 weeks ago. They pushed the car out and I was able to have OnStar unlock it. My theory is that the strong magnetic fields of the blowers or rollers in the wash makes the car unable to sense that the key is still in the car and it locks the car thinking you have left the vehicle. Next time I"ll have to keep the backup key in my pocket just in case..... Southern 03-25-08, 12:54 AM I don't know about that......... There really is no sytrong magnetic field in a car wash.....
And if I hear one more time about that &*%$^%$@ Acura, I am going to puke. NJRonbo 03-25-08, 06:56 AM Response Withdrawn | |
