Picked up my crystal red, cashmere, preminum luxury collection, Fe-2 package and polished wheels yesterday. What a car, absolutely stunning.
I'm only hoping and praying I don't have the problems some of you guys are having. Trying to be optimistic, 27 miles and no problems. One question, the finance guy at the dealer tried to sell me a separate warranty, for five years, for the keyless remotes ($395) and for the tires and wheels ($495). He said this is a road hazard warranty and is not covered. He also said if I loose a remote they cost $400 but the warranty would cover it. That's a grand total of $900. What do you guys think? Is it worth it and has anyone had any tire or remote problems? I hate spending another $900.

Stay as far away from this dealer as possible. In fact, don't ever buy another car from him. You get two FOB's with the car. That's all that's necessary. It's just another case of " How can I separate you from your money".

The FOB warranty is a new one :) I don't think that's needed as the FOBs should be covered under your factory warranty. Just don't bust or lose one.

The tire and wheel can be a different story. He is telling you the truth that you do not have road hazard on your existing car. What you need to do is look at the tires that come with your car, size and brand, and check on tirerack.com or discounttire.com and see how much they cost. The wheels are certainly not going to be cheap, but you're going to have to hit a large pothole or curb to damage them to need to be replaced. It can and does happen, but the odds are much better you'll encounter a road hazard that will cause the tire to need replacing before a wheel like sidewall damage or a nail/screw too close to the sidewall to patch. When I bought my STS-V I did get the wheel and tire for 4 years because my stock wheels cost 1000.00 a piece and the rear run flats are 500.00 ea. (fronts are 400) . It's a form of insurance that you will need it before you use up your first set of tires, because when you do buy a new set, you will more than likely get road hazard with those and it's much cheaper. For me and my car it made sense, but you need to verify the cost of your tires and then decide the chances you'll need to replace one before they wear out.

Hey, congratulations; your car sounds identical to mine; it's a fully loaded crystral red, etc.... and, I took delivery of mine on August 28, 2007; have 5500 miles on it, and it has been flawless so far. Best car I've ever owned.

And, yes, your dealer sounds like someone to avoid; it always amazes me how some car dealers try to load on things you don't need--good friend bought a 2007 Toyota Camry; he talked her into 'paint sealing, rustproofing, scotchguarding the upholstery, etc.

Hi guys.
Thanks for your replys so far. Good idea about checking on the price of a replacement tire. The 18" polished rim is a different story. If that gets damaged, I'm screwed. Again it's a crapshoot, what are the odds? The remote is another story. If I loose one, yes, I am responsible but does anyone know if it gets broken, is it covered by the warranty? 900 bucks can buy a lot of beer!!!

Concur, buy the beer. If you lose the FOB, your fault and you pay the consequences; that's an acceptable risk. If it breaks, through no fault of your own, it will be covered under warranty. Again, if there is a manufacturers defect in the wheels or tire, it is covered under warranty; if your run over a curb, again your fault and your pay the consequences.

Try thinking about it this way: when you buy a warranty for the things you just described, you're betting the insurance company/person that you are going to lose the FOB or going to run over that curb. Think about it, what are the odds; these should be the factors that should sway your decision. Sure, stuff can happen, but again, what are the odds?

OK, not the sales deparment, but they do some agressive selling in the service department, too: I love how you go in for a $30 oil change and they come and try to sell some extra $300 job--like you just fell off the turnip truck or something. Grrrrrr...

No paint sealant or rustproofing warranties offered, but while I'm on the warranty kick, what do you guys think of the 7 year extended warranty? I know the bumper to bumper will only be effective for an extra 3 years after the factory one expires. I got a price from a dealer in Georgia for 7 years, 70,000 miles, no deductible for $1885.00.

The warranty you're getting is really only for three years. The GM four year warranty is included in the seven being offered.

This is an interesting thread. I remember when I was buying my Crystal Red, Titanium, Lux 2, FE2 sport CTS, the finance manager gave me the option of the GMPP. He wasn't pushy about it - just let me know that it was available to me, and let me know I could have it at a greatly discounted rate, which was all well and good. I wasn't ready to make the decision and knew that I had several months before deciding without any kind of financial penalty on the cost for the warranty, so I skipped it. Then, as fate would have it, the engine failed as everyone here probably already knows and the dealer requested that GM give me a 5 year/100k mi GMPP Major Guard warranty free of charge for our trouble. So... in our isolated case, at least, it turned out to be a very good decision NOT to purchase the additional coverage at the time of purchase!

The Key fob warranty has got to be one of the most ridiculous things i have ever heard of, its a complete waste of your money. Especially since those are rarely lost/damaged. The retail price of the remote for the ez key system is only $160 retail and less than $100 cost. The part number is 25854935 if you want to check with one of the online dealers. I was able to get a brand new one off ebay, shipped from Great Britain for only $13. Don't waste your money, and find a new dealer, yours is sheisty.
