Good Day
Just picked up a '78 6 door limo from Texas. What a smooth ride. Can't find a Deville or Fleetwood emblem(they probably got tired of putting it back on after the sixth painting). Can anyone tell me how to identify the model? I see the same engine was offered from '77-'79. Just wondering whether later model body and interior parts will exchange with a '78 without major modifications.
Thanks
Dan
I think one thing that will tell you if it's a Fleetwood or a DeVille pretty easily is that Fleetwoods had a wreath around the Cadillac emblems, while DeVilles had either nothing around the emblems, or a "V" under the trunk emblem. See if thre are wreaths around the emblems on the steering wheel, the back of the top, the hood ornament, the trunk lid, etc.
There are lots of other differences, of course, but that's a pretty easy one. Since it's a limo, it was probably a Fleetwood. They made a factory limo, I think it was called the 75 series, and a lot of those were converted too. Was your six-door a funeral car?

D, THEY SHOULD ALL BE INTERCHANGABLE FOR THOSE 3 YEARS. THE LIMO IS A STRETCHED VERSION OF THE FLEETWOOD. EVEN YEARS FARTHER OUT INTO THE 80'S CAN BE CULLED FOR PARTS. BEST TO GET PARTS MANUALS.
I HAVE SAID MY '79 COUP DE VILLE RAN SMOOTHER THAN MY '93. :crying: THEY WERE REAL LAND YACHTS,MAN. :bouncy:

It could either be a Fleetwood or a DeVille. What do the front seats look like? That's probably the easiest way to tell what it is.

It's probably based off of the commercial chassis. Cadillac built the chassis, and other companies built the bodies.
