I was just wondering if anyone had a k&n filter on there sts v8 and how they liked it? I have had k&n on every vehicle I have owned since high school except my corvette and my sts. Mainly because they were still under warranty. Now my sts is almost out of the warranty stage and I wanted to use a k&N, but I though I remembered reading on here were the sts's had problems with the air/fuel mix. I don’t remember the facts around the problem, but I thought the factory or aftermarket filter solved the problem.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks.:)

The short answer on K&N filters is that they trade off filtration for increased flow--that extra air gets in because more dirt gets in too. This really shouldn't surprise anyone.

My check engine light is on and off with the stock filter, can't imagine how it might be with a K&N on this one!

I don't believe that K&N filters let in more air, they flow the same as new, clean, paper filters, they only flow more than the factory filters when you compare both when they are dirty, the K&N filters flow much better. Plus they are washable and reusable. Performance gains are probably nill on these cars, but I'd go ahead and get one. I've used them on some of my other cars too.

Like I said I have used them in all my other vehicles. I like the filters, I just wanted to make sure that they didnt cause any problems with the sts. I thought I read somewhere that they did, but maybe not.

I have one that fits in the box. The engine has more sound. (good and bad) I also like they are reusable. I think it gives me more peak HP. But, who really knows.

Some of these air boxes are twitchy about aiflow. Using a different style filter can cause issues with the MAF sensor. Might not be enough to do anything, but then again...
I am not a lover of K&N, but I don't really have anything bad to say about them.
Nothing wrong with a stock filter changed at regular intervals.
To each his own.

i think that they do make a diff, but not so much with stock box & tubing. and the sts price for intakes is a little much for what you get. BUT, when you change to a freeflow with modified intake, you will always notice an increase in throttle repsonse, so it's doing something.
ewill3rd is dead on about too much flow tripping the map code. i had it on one vette, but not the next, etc...

The check engine light on My new 07 STS has come on four times in three weeks; 1st time Onstar said it was an O2 sensor, 2nd time they said it was fuel mixture, 3rd time it went off after sitting in garage overnite, 4th time I took it to dealer and am in a rental now. Any ideas on what the problem might be? Also, Occassionally there is a foul smell like dirty socks.
ps. I had a K&N on my 05 suburban and loved the sound and response it provided. It actually calmed the cruise-control downshifting down a bunch.
