| View Full Version : Fuel door button inop on my '90 Allante. has anyone changed one of these? lesaroka 05-21-04, 10:47 PM I hope I don't have to tear out the console just to replace this switch. Can anyone offer some advice on how to r+r it?:bighead: Ozark Caddy 05-21-04, 11:30 PM The switch itself is pretty easy to get to. Check out this picture. There are just a couple of screws inside the console to open the panel. Your problem however may not be the switch, it may be the actuator the switch triggers. It is behind the drivers seat in the LH speaker compartment. See picture for that. Good Luck:bouncy: lesaroka 05-22-04, 11:18 AM Thanks so much Ozark Caddy for the diagrams. Do you know how I might tell which problem I have; switch or actuator? Thanks again:) Ozark Caddy 05-22-04, 11:49 AM When you get the switch out, determine if it is a normally closed or normally open switch. Typically they are all normally open and when you push the button you close it. Easy to determine with a simple ohm meter connected across the switch. If the switch is bad then you can short across the two wires that connect to the switch with a paper clip or other appropriate shorting device and the actuator should pop the door open. This switch appears to be the same switch used in many GM cars located inside the glove box to open the truck lid. You can also obtain a circuit tester from Wal Mart or any car parts place. It looks like a small screw driver but it has a wire with a clip on the end coming out of the handle. The blade is sharpened to a point. You connect the clip to ground and use the point to search for 12V. When you touch a hot point the handle will light up. You could varify that you have 12V coming to one side of the switch, when you push the button, both sides should cause the handle to light up. No light, no 12V. lesaroka 05-22-04, 12:12 PM Hello Ozark Caddy, You are too good to be true. Thanks so much for all the info. It will greatly help.
