Hi, just ordered my CTS March 8th (black/black). Since I live in Wisconsin, I think I need to get it rustproofed. My dealer offers Simonizing. Does anyone have any advice on whether this is a decent product or is there something else out there that is better?

I thought they(the dealers) already did that. My dealer did that and I live in California.

My dealer told me I needed to get that done, especially because it's black. Yours included it with the car?

Rustproofing? In 2008? Not needed. Car is even warranteed against rust. Car is rustproofed from the factory.
And what, in the name of all that is holy, would the color have anything to do with rust?

This is a dealer scam.

The salesman told me that bird poop would mar the black finish. I was worried that he was giving me a line...

My dealer told me it was warranted for rust for 5 or so years. Southern is right about the factory doing it. They just said they did it but I think "they" meaning GM.

Rust proofing is the new undercoat, a bituminous paint that was sprayed on the underside of the car and was a notorious scam. It added a hundred pounds to the weight of the car, made any body repairs a real pain in the ass and made it impossible to wash the road salt off in the spring. The old line dealers still smart from the auto manufacturers going to galvanized and other body protection processes that keep the car from rusting out and have concocted other scams they call rust proofing that are little more than the spray wax they squirt on your car at the local car wash.

Bird poop will eat through any color paint. This is not rust. New cars do not need aftermarket rust protection. If a bird poops on your car, clean it off ASAP.

Most car bodies these days are made from galvanized steel. You rarely see "rusted out" cars any more, even in the "Salt King" state of MI.
