So I'm driving up a local city street when I spot very rough 89 STS. I slam on the brakes to go investigate.

After further review the car appears to be very very abused. Almost every body panel on the car is destroyed, all of the body side moulding is in pieces. Interior is more than destroyed. The leather is basically non existent on the 2 front seating areas, controls and switches hanging from the doors, dash destroyed to provision for aftermarket stereo.

So very depressing. Despite all of that nonsense, I figured it might still be worth having around. So I take the time to track the guy down. The cars got 3 parking tickets on it so I figure he's not far. Turns out, everyone that walks by knows where he lives. Huh. So I go ask him if he'd sell it.

He commences to tell me about the new rear shocks and that the car needs some body work. I said yeah no kidding. So he asks me what I want to pay. I of course told him to tell me about the car. etc etc.

So the bottom line was he says the minimum he'd take for it was $1500. I had all I could do not to laugh in his face. I was prepared to give him $200 for it, maybe.

So now my day is ruined :(

Wise choice. Not sure I would take it if HE paid ME $200.

Sounds like it was in pretty rough condition. When I purchased my other Seville (89), I paid $400 and it seemed to be in better condition than what you just described. I loved that car, but couldn't keep it as a daily driver due to high mileage and adding cooling problems.

I replaced the radiator, water pump, coolant temp sensor for the fans. The heater core was having problems where the heat NEVER turned off (very bad in summer time, hehe). Thermostat seemed to be on it's way out, due to the frequent high-temp issues.

After putting all that work into it, I sold it for $500. Not too bad.

Those cars are only good for one thing, parts. Don't worry there's a ton of beat up devilles around, that don't have psychotic owners.

I just figured if I could score an 89 STS for parts it would be great to have around but I guess that's not the one. Maybe I can find one of the other 1889 that I haven't seen yet.

I'm just thinking that for everyone of those out there, mine just becomes more collectible.

No no no silly. There were only 1893 of these made with the STS package in 1989. I own 1 of them. I have, in my life, seen 3 others now. There are 1889 of them that I haven't seen

I think I've seen like 2-3 of the 88-91 STS. I love those cars.

I said 89 but this one may actually have been a 90. In 90 they started putting a valance under the rear bumper. It looked pretty sweet.

I~LUV~Caddys8792; mines for sale :)
