View Full Version : The thing that is driving me NUTS!! muneeb25 03-13-08, 10:02 AM OK i read the manual as much as i can, so maybe (hopfully) someone can help me, and if not i really am gonna go crazy with this.
The one thing i HATE!! is that i just put in a destination on the Nav, i'm driving and looking at the screen here and there, at the same time im listinging to the radio, now a carppy song comes up and using the botton on the steering wheel i hit up (or down) and it says "SEEKING" (AHHH) instead of jumping to my next preset station. That drives me NUTS!!!! i wanna go to my next favorite radio station not go through 800 other stations before i get to the one i want. Why would Cadillac design the steering wheel button like that?????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????:rant2: so for me to go to my presets i have to now hit the screen, go to radio, and change the stations MANUALLY!!!!! (WAT THE HELL) that is so distracting and ANNOYING!!!! and then go back to my NAV only till i wanna change the station again!!!!!!!!! (AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH) OK i read the manual as much as i can, so maybe (hopfully) someone can help me, and if not i really am gonna go crazy with this.

Soon as you relax, I will tell you. MARKVIII 03-13-08, 12:17 PM please tell me also..even a 15k car has this feature. Poor design... and lack of buttons... It was fixed but you need a new 2008
Whats funny is that the more options you bought with the car the less radio controls you have. The base model has pre-set scan... Add navigation and other features and they changed the buttons to things like the Voice Activation which I never use... (A Waste) and since I have ACC they put the Gap Buttons on the wheel... (Like I even need to change these once I set the system up)... Poor design... I even checked the schematics to see if I can change the buttons and you cant... dkozloski 03-13-08, 02:35 PM It's just like the radio in a 1954 Cadillac El Dorado only in the '54 you pushed a button on the floor with your foot to seek the next station and they were all AM. This just highlights the disconnect between the engineers and designers from the users. One of these days the engineers are going to give the product to the layman BEFORE putting it into production. I dabble in VB code for my job and always give my programs to the least technical person I know (my mother) before I consider them user friendly. I know it makes sense to the guy who built it, but no one else understands it. Try setting a POI or even better, clearing a POI. How about scrolling MP3 while in motion (I know not a design issue but still sucks). What about locking out all controls, including mute, except for volume when receiving a BT call. Poor design and worse training. Heck, I had to go back to the dealership to show my sales guy how to use the nav. Even he said that he never sold a car that was as confusing. muneeb25 03-13-08, 03:23 PM i dont believe this!!!! i thought i was doing something wrong, and was so stupid that I might have over looked something simple. But am i to understand that all the BRAINS at Cadillac are stupider then i am or just did this to piss us off!! THERES GOTTA BE A WAY TO FIX THIS ISSUE. Doesnt customer service at GM care about there customers????? im sure with some software update they can fix this for us!!! we need to sign a patition or something cuz im not KIDDING when i say HOW MUCH THIS IS PISSING ME OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:banghead: MARKVIII 03-13-08, 06:31 PM Take that stupid ass MUTE BUTTON and convert it into a scan to next favorite station button. or give us a toggle switch in the radio settings to have the scan button EITHER scan next favorite station or scan next signaled station..seems like common sense to me. It's just like the radio in a 1954 Cadillac El Dorado only in the '54 you pushed a button on the floor with your foot to seek the next station and they were all AM.
Those were the days. GM had it all. Port holes, chrome, stainless steel roofs, Autotronic-Eye, Wonder-Bar radio (AM only), Continental kits, Kentucky Go-Fasters (fender skirts), curb feelers, suicide knobs, portable trunk light, locking hub caps, illuminated hood ornaments, sun shades, 4-barrel carbs, and not to forget - glove compartments that held more than one pair of gloves. Yee-Haa. :bouncy: Those were the days. Trivia - Why did all GM Delco radios have five buttons on the radio? Because BUICK and CHEVY have five letters. fast32vsts 03-13-08, 08:11 PM I do not know why my car would not be the same. I push top of the far right button and it will step up to the next station, the botom of the button says 1-6 and will scan my presets, works well. To the left of that switch is the volume.
On the far left side button the top will mute, lower will change radio source. The button to the right of that will have Onstar or VR on top and heated wheel on the lower.
07 Lux with performance and nav, and all options I do not know why my car would not be the same. I push top of the far right button and it will step up to the next station, the botom of the button says 1-6 and will scan my presets, works well. To the left of that switch is the volume.

Mine as well as most here have a seek + / Seek - button... No preset button at all. fast32vsts 03-14-08, 05:30 AM OK after looking at a bunch of STSs on E-bay it looks like 06 and older do not have the pre set button, all the 07s have a pre set scan button. Funny when I open my owners manual it shows that button only on the V and base model would have just seek up and down. I wonder if a dealer could re-program the bottom of the button to do pre set scan. I find that the VR works very well for going to a XM or FM station.
Good luck pjbizjak 03-14-08, 11:25 AM As 'fast32vsts' says the steering wheel controls do differnet functions depending on how you push them, top/bottom left/right etc;. 07 STS, 05's and 06's might be different. pjbizjak 03-14-08, 11:28 AM Just a thought, but when the nav screen is activated with a map and you change the radio station, it reverts to the location on the screen and locates local stations. Mine, too...I guess Cadillac Customer Service was listening...the '07 + operates that way, I didn't know the others didn't. Greg00coupe 03-16-08, 02:06 PM Only having my 05 for about 45 days I've not messed too much with this but am equally frustrated. What I stumbled into I think is if you activate the info button on the navi radio control screen the scan button on the steering wheel works a little better. What I get w/o info on is the the scan just runs and runs. With the info on it seems to work like a seek button and gets me to my favorites with a few extra pushes here and there. | |
