View Full Version : UGH! Does it ever stop? Btngchck 03-12-08, 06:12 PM Ok, within the last few months I've had a couple of hubs replaced. Now, I have the following codes C1221, 1223, 1224, 1225, 1233, 1232, 1248 and 1282 (all C codes), U1301 and U1016.
Traction control light and ABS light come on frequently (every or every other day). At times my ABS engaged for no reason when slowing to a stop (road conditions dry), no reason for the abs to engage, after that the service stability system message appears and traction control and abs lights go on. Other times the message appears, and the two lights go on and there has been no brake issue or other issue I was aware of. Seems like a lot of codes at one time.
I am taking the car in on Monday, but being car illiterate you guys here give me some information that I can take to them and I don't sound so stupid. I like to have a bit of knowledge before I walk in and you guys have been phenomenal in the past with excellent advice.
'02 STS.............even with all of these problems I do love my car.....
Thanks to all of you! Btngchck 03-12-08, 06:13 PM on a side note.............two weeks ago they had to replace the axle to get to the hub because it was rusted and they had to break it......... CadillacSTS2003 03-12-08, 06:17 PM faulty ignition switch... C1221 - Left Front Wheel Speed Sensor Input Signal is 0
C1223 - Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Input Signal is 0
C1224 - Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Input Signal is 0
C1225 - Left Front Excessive Wheel Speed Variation
C1232 - Left Front Wheel Speed Circuit Open or Shorted
C1233 - Right Front Wheel Speed Circuit Open or Shorted
C1248 - EBCM Turned the Red Brake Warning Indicator On
C1282 - Yaw Rate Sensor Bias Circuit Malfunction
Where the wheel speed sensors pluged back in when the job was done? Where they quality hubs? Btngchck 03-12-08, 06:34 PM Well, it was done at a dealer and that's where it's going back to. Not sure what was installed. I would imagine they were good..............
I did read the codes..........but am clueless to what it all means......
Any special questions I should ask them? I don't know, but way to many related DTC's after the job. I'd be suspicious that someone did something wrong. Just my suspicious nature. Btngchck 03-12-08, 07:28 PM Thanks Ranger.............
and by the way, I think it was you that had me tell them to check the water pump way back in November.......I just wanted you to know you were dead on.......they changed the water pump and have not had a problem since....
Funny you would say it seems as if it's related to what they did. The hub was changed because I heard a weird noise that was consistent so when they drove it they heard it too, I am now hearing a different noise but sounds as if it's coming from the front passenger side (as did the last noise)..........hmmmm makes one wonder. But, why would the rear codes be there if it was related to what they did. Which was replace the axle and front passenger hub.
And, the abs engaging......way to much to think about! misfit6794 03-12-08, 07:33 PM Integrated into each hub is the wheel speed sensor. It sends info to your abs and traction control system. Chances are the dealer either didn't plug it back in when they replace the hub, or they broke it (its really easy to do). How they didn't plug in all four or broke all four is a mystery. Take it back to the dealership, and tell them its staying there until its fixed, and you aren't paying a dime towards it. Could be a bad EBCM. Just a shot in the dark. chubbyranger 03-12-08, 07:37 PM Disable the traction control and see if that causes the ABS to stop tripping - it may actually be the traction control going off. CadillacSTS2003 03-12-08, 07:40 PM i had the SAME issue with my 2003 Seville STS
ignition switch
random speratic abs and tc codes
abs and t/c lights would pop up at random, sometimes while driving sometimes when starting the car... Btngchck 03-12-08, 07:44 PM Tried disabling the TCS however, the stability system message still comes on and both lights on the dash come back.........
But, didn't have the issue with the brakes, but then again that's not always consistent and once the lights go on the brake issue stops......... Btngchck 03-12-08, 07:50 PM i had the SAME issue with my 2003 Seville STS

Not that I doubt or am questioning you, but because I like to gain knowledge.....how does the ignition affect the brakes? Sometimes it happens immediately after the abs engage (for no reason i might add), however, most times not......... Btngchck 03-23-08, 09:14 PM Just an update.................
Took the car back to the dealer. They said when the hub they replaced was a bad one. They replaced it again. Three days after that three of the same codes and both lights came on again. Took it in on Friday and they had no time to do anything, taking it back again tomorrow. There is a noticeable shake, and it shakes the accelerator. Is all of this in the same mix? The service manager is trading me vehicles for a couple of days, hopefully he will not fail to notice the shake (and is this a normal occurrence?) submariner409 03-23-08, 09:43 PM No, it's not normal, by a long shot. When all's right with the Seville front end and suspension it's smooth as silk.
Something's wrong and it can be anything from wheel/tire balance, out-of-round tire, bent rim, tire-rotor mating surface, worn hub, worn tie rod end(s), loose steering rack, engine cradle mounts, intermediate steering coupling, alignment, to worn CV joints.
A FWD car is murder to keep hot, straight, and normal. Everything in the system works to defeat smooth ride control. CadillacSTS2003 03-23-08, 10:19 PM ignition switch tells the abs computers to turn on to engage.... Btngchck 03-25-08, 06:52 PM Ok.............I think it's almost over!
Front left and right hub are changed. Wiring to the left has been replaced. All that's left are two new rear tires and a front end alignment.......there is light at the end of the tunnel!
Thanks EO for all of the good advice and suggestions! Very much appreciated....:worship: | |
