Hey folks firstly my STS has 171k on her, runs like new and no error messages so far. I got my previous over heating problem sorted, turned out to be a blocked BY-Pass Water hose. all clear and running like a charm.

They also checked the thermostat and waterpump and belts when that was done so all good.

However tonight after driving home, about 20 miles mostly motorway at 70mph. Pulled into my street and was about to turn into a space and it appeared to Stall, engine was off steering was heavy, all lights where on the dash. Switched it off and then on again and it was fine.

No errors or anything and parked up perfectly let it idle for a min seemed fine.

Can these things stall? as I did give it a little gas as I was coming into the street then apply the brakes (as u do to wake the neighbours lol)

Im worried now

Although more common in the '00 - '03 series of Northstars, one of the two Crankshaft Position Sensors (CKP) can cause a low-speed stall and restart. The early parts run was sourced through Siemens in Mexico, and the upgraded units, post-03, are Japanese. There is much in here and Northstar Performance on CKP's. Not a hard job, the usual U.S. parts houses mentioned in here are the source. You will also need a dozen or so retainer plastic rivets for the lower splash shield...p/n 14093088, and the p/n for the (4) retainers in the fender wells is 11518017 (98 & 99), later uses the 140xxxxx p/n. The sensor numbers are below, xxxxx481 & 2. Sensor A is the bottom, B is top. (They're the crankshaft-to-PCM ignition timing sensors, among other functions...)

Also, the throttlebody houses a couple of idle speed passages which sometimes suffer from gunk buildup due to one of the PCV supply/vacuum lines causing oily film buildup. The cure is to obtain a can or two of throttlebody cleaner, not choke cleaner (different chemicals) and remove the intake hoses, block the throttle butterfly wide open, stuff a rag into the throttlebody, past the butterfly, and scrub everything - bore and butterfly - with the cleaner and old toothbrush. Pull the rag with long needlenose pliers.
The rag prevents pooling of the flammable chemicals in the intake maifold low areas.

Thanks very much for such a quick and detailed post, this forum is fantastic :) Will give my mechanic a call and see if he can get those parts and how much were looking at thanks.

....Will give my mechanic a call and see if he can get those parts and how much were looking at thanks. If it was my car.... before I started throwing any parts at the problem, I would do two things.

(1)Gain access to the forward section of the engine (from the bottom) and be sure the crankshaft position sensor mounting bolts are tight and secure.

(2)Exercise the sensor connectors several times to wipe the connector contacts clean of oxidation - corrosion.

I experienced the random stalls you are describing and all I did was (1) and (2) above. And that was more than 6 years ago; no random stalls since!
