On every car I've had when you pushed the fob to open the trunk, it popped open. Very nice to have when your hands are full. With my 05 STS that I got last month you need to lift the trunk and it sometimes feels like more effort then expected. It does have the optional factory spoiler and I wonder if the spoiler ads enough weight that it won't pop open? What's your experience w and w/o the spoiler?

I have a 2006 STS without the spoiler and the trunk does not pop open. It didn't happen in the 2001 Monte Carlo I had either.

My 2008 STS without a spoiler only opens a few inches. I do like the fact that I have the option of opening it without having to take the fob out of my pocket.

The only car I've had where the trunk opened all the way just using the remote was my 2003 Bonneville.

Yes, it's nice that you can open the trunk by having the fob in your pocket and just press on the membrane switch under the emblem. But I really liked the 2001 STS that I had where the trunk opened all the way by itself when the button on the fob was pressed.

To answer your question, I'm pretty sure the 2005+ STS are designed not to open the trunk completely when they are unlatched.

My 2006 did not come with a spoiler, I had one put on, did not notice change in trunk weight.

I would not want my trunk to open up if the button was pressed... What if it was accidentily pressed I would not want the trunk open for everyone to see whats inside. Many occassions with my keys in my pocket the keys would push a button, plus the kids from time to time like to press buttons if I leave them on the counter.

My 2005 trunk lid with spoiler does not open unless lifted. I prefer the 96 design which opened wide from the remote, and it also had a motor to close it. Further peeve: that little membrane handle on the new STS gets filthy with road spray, especially in winter.
