I have a factory stereo tape deck that has all the nobs in tact from an 85 fleetwood. The tape deck does not engage it jus clicks back and forth.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
Also the display does not work. So there is no time and you have to guess what channel you're on. I'n thinking about removing this one and upgrading to a CD but it wont be original cadillac.
Is the value going to go down if I take this factory deck out and put a cd in the dash? Should I keep it stock and mount a CD player under my seat? Does anyone want my Cadillac Deck if I do take it out?
Give me some words of wisdom from all the cadillac veterans out there.
Not sure how to fix the electrical probs, but I don't think changing the unit will really hurt the value much at all, if any. Check your fuses, one of them is tied into the radio display (lighter fuse?). Also, there is no indicator as to what program is playing, some genius at Delco overlooked that. I have a Pioneer CD changer under the driver seat that plays through the radio system (although I mostly use the 8-track). I'm into keeping the stock appearance as far as my car goes, without butchering the dash bezel.
Yah i have to agree, i dont think it will have anything to do with the value, unless its a 18k mile garaged dream car, that could roll across the block at Barett Jackson....
My 81 has one of the LCD segments burned out, though my 85 parts car is i belive fully lit. I dont know if the tape deck works... but i can probably check if you want to pick up a used radio... Im putting a 90 dash in my car anyways... can you say FACTORY CD PLAYER?? Ooo Yah!!!
Check for a blown yellow "body" fuse first. If not blown then the radio's dust. The clicking is a broken little belt within the deck that rotates the wheel to advance the cassette. Replace the radio with a aftermarket CD. get a wiring adapter so as to not cut factory plugs. Then get a kit that adapts to your dash opening.
I agree, it won't hurt the value much but what it will do is be a negative "tic" on things. If you swap it out, be sure to keep the original head unit. It's always great to have it on hand and offer it with the sale. Truthfully, a radio that works is always better than one that doesn't. OEM or not.
Personally, I'd look for a good OEM unit. Even an upgrade, if it's possible.
