View Full Version : Dash trim question..........

I'm thinking of getting an '05 or '06 STS this spring as a new (for me) daily driver. The problem is that I want the standard aluminum dash trim instead of the wood, but cars with this feature are hard to come by.

I don't want to have to settle for any particular exterior color on a car just because it has the metal trim, so I thought if I can find one I like otherwise, maybe I could just swap out the wood trim for the aluminum.

My question (finally) is, does anyone know how complex this would be? Can the pieces be changed out from the front, or is there going to have to be some dash disassembly, and if so, how much, etc etc.

Any info would be appreciated.

I think the only cars that came with that trim were the v-6 models. I think it would be pretty simple to pull the old one out and snap the new one in, but then it wound not match the other items that are wood, door handle panels, shifter, etc.... Good Luck

Sorry - forgot to mention I don't want to use an aftermarket trim kit. The pieces look too flat, and without the dimension of the factory kit.

why would you want that ugly cheap looking and feeling fake trim over real warm looking wood??

Yeah, I would keep looking at different cars, I think once you really sit in some of the upgraded interiors, you'll change your mind about the aluminum trim and like the wood better...

No accounting for taste, I guess. I just don't like wood trim in cars. I could live with it in the cashmere colored interior, but I think the dark wood looks god-awful in the grey and the black interiors.

if you dont like the brown wood, you can alway try to get the dark/black wood off of the STS-V, i would love to be able to get my hands on that wood kit for my car, my 08 has a bit of aluminum on the center part that doesn't make the wood look so bad, because im not much of a "wood" fan.

the wood does look best on the beige interior (cashmere)..i agree that dark interior and wood don't mix well together. that goes for every car made.

Funny, I think exactly the opposite. I think nothing is better looking than a black interior with wood accents. We're on our 4th car with this color combo and love it. My Silverado pickup has this same color interior as well.

That's why they make cars in all different color combinations!

Ditto, I think the ebony interior is the sharpest of all. The cashmere is nice too, but shows dirt & wear more quickly. Personal opinion.

actually, both the 6 and the 8 models came with metal instead of the wood...the 1sb and the 1sc option packages had the wood...the 1sc had the wood all the doors, steeringwheel, console, stack and dash...the 1sb had it on the console, dash and the center stack.
