: For the gun nuts (new toy)...

Well, actually my son's new toy. He turned 11 this week and I decided it was time to get him his first real gun. I had planned to get him the old reliable Ruger 10/22. But my dad told me about this Rossi trifecta he had seen an ad for, so I headed over to the local gun shop and they just happened to have the Rossi in stock. After handling it a bit I was sold on it.

It's a single shot with 3 interchangeable barrels (.22LR, .243 Win., 20 ga.). The barrels swap out very easily and seem to sit tight and secure once installed. The sights are good on the rifle barrels and the .243 has a weaver rail for a scope. We'll see how well it holds up and shoots on our next trip to the range. I think it will be a good gun for him to learn on and he can plink with it, bird/turkey hunt with it, and even deer hunt with the .243.

Oh, and he was ecstatic, to put it mildly. :D

I would add a hammer spur to that gun for safety.Small greasy sweaty hands and slippery hammers don't go well together.Carlson makes a nice double sided one.

Put it in the Post yr. Weapons thread! Keep that one alive!!! :)

Good starter though, yes. Once he learns the .22, .243 will be a helluva good step up for him...and 20 is probably a much better learning curve than a 12.

Sweet!

Wow. My first gun was and hand-me down. It was my grandfather's .22 that he got back in 1947 for his 16th birthday.

Nice starter weapon for the kid! Have you fired it yourself?

Great idea. I'll look into that.

Haven't fired it yet, but I'll give a full range report next time out.

Posted it in the weapons thread, but..... I still have my mother's Winchester .22 Short gallery pump rifle. She used to plink in the back yard when my sisters and I were kids. Pretty good, if I remember correctly. She taught all 3 of us target shooting and safety.
