As some of you know, I'm a big fan of Dusty Springfield (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dusty_Springfield), especially her landmark album, Dusty in Memphis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dusty_in_Memphis) from 1969. It's ranked one of the 100 Greatest Albums of All Time by Rolling Stone and VH1, and it was awarded a Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. Son of a Preacher Man was its big hit, but the album is full of great songs, expertly performed by a true master.

Anyway, while browsing around Amazon recently, I came across Shelby Lynne's Just a Little Lovin' (http://www.amazon.com/Just-Little-Lovin-Shelby-Lynne/dp/B000ZK53CA/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1204689546&sr=8-1), which was inspired by Dusty Springfield. At first I was skeptical. It's pretty tough to make a decent cover of a classic song, much less a whole album. But I listed to the samples, and I was hooked. Shelby Lynne manages to capture Dusty's sexy, sultry style while making the songs fresh and uniquely her own. The sound is subtle and quiet, but also very soulful. I think Dusty would approve.

It doesn't hurt that Shelby Lynne is seriously hot:
An excellent, excellent album. Highly recommended.

Came across an interesting review of Just a Little Lovin' from the New York Daily News (http://www.nydailynews.com/entertainment/music/2008/01/27/2008-01-27_shelby_lynne_takes_on_dusty_springfields-1.html).

She's very cute. She has a video preview on iTunes and she's wearing nothing but a towel in the vid....barely. :eyebrow:
