View Full Version : Blew my rear.... Scotty7751 03-03-08, 10:34 AM well last friday my cadillac came out of the shop for a rear whine. I must have super sonic hearing. can you guess what..... nothing was wrong with it..... and would you believe the day i get it back ohhhh no the rear end decides to blow up....... now Sewell wont cover it even though it is well under warranty and they are being ass hats about it.
I need some options for rears...... did that billet case ever work and is it for sale yet? or are there other options for rears? like the 3rd gen corvette rear? Im not gonna let Sewell bone me in price for something that is under warranty. CTSV_510 03-03-08, 10:38 AM Why are they not going to warranty it? I don't get it. thebigjimsho 03-03-08, 10:45 AM well last friday my cadillac came out of the shop for a rear whine. what kind of warrenty wont cover a rear ??? v10boost 03-03-08, 11:05 AM take it to another dealership. ask around for best V friendly dealership. I would drive few hours if they will fix under warranty. yea why wont they fix it and go to another dealership Cadillac Tony 03-03-08, 12:34 PM Sorry to hear about the problem, Scotty. I'll give you the same advice I always do in these situations, and that is to be polite but firm with them. Ask what their reason for denying your warranty coverage is, and politely go up the ladder until you get satisfaction- if the Service Manager won't do it, talk to the General Manager, then the owner.
If all else fails, taking it to another Dealer is always a last option. It sucks, but some Dealers are just boneheads about things like this. Send a PM to Urbanski, RightTurn or CIWS and find out who they deal with, as they're all located in TX also. :yeah: Unless they have physical evidence of you abusing the car, there's no reason they should not replace it under warranty.
I'm really baffled by dealership's refusal to warranty these rears. Are they limited to a certain number of these type of replacements within a certain time period, or is there some other incentive for them to refuse this type of work? I noticed that you're 20 yrs old. I have had issues in the past (not with my caddy dealership, but other places) because of the fact that I am young. Some people think that they can BS you just because of your age, when most of the time you actually know more that they do. The salesman I purchased from actually starting trying to give me some salesperson BS about the car, then he quickly realized that I knew WTF I was talking about.
Like Jim and Tony were saying, demand it and go up the ladder until you get it. Which Sewell, and what reason did they give for no warranty replacement, is it you Mod level of the car ? Mystical_Ice 03-03-08, 03:16 PM hey man, sorry to hear the news! did you get the maggie on it yet?
if worst comes to worst, and i hate to suggest this, but if you need to bring it to Houston to do it, i know for a fact that the dealership that i use will cover it. if you'd like, i can even call my service adviser and double-check. Scotty7751 03-03-08, 04:48 PM No mods at all. i made it a point to my dad that we needed to try and get the rear end warrantied before i install the maggie and motor and stuff it had been in the shop 2-3 previous time for rear whine. But i always have my dad take it in i have never taken it in so they dont know i drive it. they said it was a vicious break.....some how they can tell.... its no different then any other case breaking.... 2nd gear was there then gone and nooo more moving. and mystical the car originally came from houston but we will see what they say. i gave my dad the DOT guys number doing the research for the recall so i think he is going to give him a call. it is at the sewell at lovefield. ill keep yall informed. Scotty7751 03-03-08, 05:14 PM ok well dad just called me we are spliting the cost with GM $1800 for us to pay....new diff and case. so it is what it is. heavymetals 03-03-08, 05:33 PM You got hosed.
Either it is in warranty or it isn't.
Unless there is more to the story............ ok well dad just called me we are spliting the cost with GM $1800 for us to pay....new diff and case. so it is what it is.
You're in an 04, has the car reached it's 4 year/50K mark already ?
If you had no Mods on the car, and no record with Cadillac of the car being Mod'd before you got it, and it's still within the factory warranty period, they should cover it without a problem. The diffs are not bullet proof by any means and there is plenty of proof out there that they go bad even without abuse. Something is not quite right here.
Sewell on Lemon is getting my car back tomorrow so they can try and discover where they stashed the 50whp it had before they worked on the engine a couple of weeks ago. Thank the Maker I have stock dyno runs to prove it's not there anymore. You got hosed! ! !
I have a dealership here in Arizona that replaced my diff (the 4th one) without any questions......My car is highly modded. All they needed to hear was the grinding....which I showed them. BTW, I "saw" the warranty invoice......It's 2200 buck and change for the parts/labor. urbanski 03-03-08, 06:07 PM hey just send me $1800 while you're in the giving mood*
*you didnt in any way fight this to its proper end....at all thebigjimsho 03-03-08, 06:55 PM Oh, to be young and dumb again... Mystical_Ice 03-03-08, 07:00 PM Scott, don't pay that man! $1800!? you could rent a trailer and tow the car to Houston and back for less than that, and have it done by a Cadillac dealer over here.
If you want to pursue it at that dealership, then argue how it's possible to break ANY component of a SPORTS PERFORMANCE car. i mean stuff like the clutch, brakes, etc. i can still understand, but to snap the differential!? print out a list of all the people that have had their differential break, and have them try to argue that. heavymetals 03-03-08, 07:23 PM Everything you sign state in writing that it is done "under duress".
That includes the check when you pick it up.
That way you can sue in small claims court and explain that your car was being held hostage and that they are not honoring the factory warranty. Oh. . . .Just to be young ! ! ! Dealer ship is like any other business.
Write to GM. it is in your owners manual. remember your car is still under warranty. Mystical_Ice 03-04-08, 09:54 AM also, scotty, you going to be at the DFW meet on April 5th? :) Cadillac Tony 03-04-08, 10:45 AM Unless there is more to the story............
You might be on to something there, Heavy. Mystical_Ice 03-04-08, 11:53 AM he's a good, legitimate guy... i don't think he'd bs or hide anything from us. trekster 03-13-08, 08:15 PM I broke my differential a few weeks ago. I took my car to get it fixed. GM denied my warranty. Luckily, I'm real good friends with the fleet manager at the place. He said that he would help me out. He takes me to the service manager. Service Manager said that the GM Rep said that they didn't find any "defect" on the car. Therefore, it wouldn't be covered under warranty. I was like why? He replied about how the break was due to wheel hop. I also showed him about all the complaints about the car. Apparently I was "abusing" my car. I was like "what abuse?" Is it my fault that GM decided to put on a piece of shit differential just because they wanted to cut corners and save money building the car. He would also try to throw out about how I had to be "tracking" the car in order to break it. The car was made for the freaking track! I would also throw on how GM markets the V series about how the cars go 0-60 in under 5 seconds. So, he brought in the General Manager of the dealer and told me that he was going to try and solve the problem by calling the GM rep. Now, I really don't blame the dealer because of this issue. I blame GM for denying the warranty. Even though, the service manager was trying to be a dick. He proceeded of saying that he would prefer to fix the car. Since, it meant money for them. Hopefully, the GM would be able to have it fixed. heavymetals 03-13-08, 08:24 PM Did you break it doing burnouts at the track? :shhh: CTSV_510 03-13-08, 08:33 PM tell them if they don't fix it, they'll have to explain it to Captain America. well last friday my cadillac came out of the shop for a rear whine. I feel the need to chime in here. I'm the guy that has the billet steel rear. I am exhausting every effort to get more built AT A REASONABLE PRICE. I can't find anyone locally to make this thing parts and labor for less than 4 grand!! I am watching people sell, break, or just hate their cars, AND IT KILLS ME to not have more housings available to sell. Every time this happens I think of another lost customer. Sorry to here... I now have the my friend Jim Browning Jr. (owner) @ Corsa pounding his machinists to help me do this. Tried Mallett's guy, he does not want steel in his busy aluminum producing machine.
I'm still trying. -Nutz heavymetals 03-13-08, 10:17 PM $4 grand is cheap when you look at the machine time that thing eats up to build. I can't message back to you heavy metals, I'd like to be able to talk and figure this out, but can't... heavymetals 03-14-08, 01:30 AM First it is 'SUPER MODERATOR"
Second, if you want to speak to someone that badly, donate the $5 bucks, become a supporting member and get instant PM abilities.
Third, if you are turned off to the car because you get your bippy spanked for not following the rules, which you admit to breaking, then maybe you should consider another type of car or forum.
Don't use me as an excuse. $4 grand or more is UNREASONABLE. trekster 03-14-08, 03:03 PM Did you break it doing burnouts at the track? :shhh:
No, just with a quick 1-2 shift. :burn: lordlang 03-14-08, 05:36 PM Does anyone have an audio of what the "whining" noise sounds like when a rear is about to go? The Tony Show 03-14-08, 05:55 PM A whining noise doesn't mean the rear is "about to go"- mine has had a slight whine for thousands of miles and works fine. The differentials that are actually breaking are a result of hard launches or shock from wheelhop. heavymetals 03-14-08, 06:57 PM A whining noise doesn't mean the rear is "about to go"- mine has had a slight whine for thousands of miles and works fine. Tony, you forgot to add : or if they were part of the defective batch of cases that plagued these early on.
I had one one of those. thebigjimsho 03-15-08, 02:40 PM Does anyone have an audio of what the "whining" noise sounds like when a rear is about to go?I feel the noise is irrelevant, unless it's a super loud howl. My first diff was quiet and then one vicious session of wheelhop made it go blam. My second diff was noisier from DAY 1. But that diff has gone 32,000 miles without an issue... Unless I'm missing something, yeah, I tend to think that something else is going on. That seems like it should have been covered.
And, for the record, only I can use Heavy as an excuse... heavymetals 03-15-08, 04:18 PM Yup, everything is my fault. :histeric:
That's what my ex-wife accused me of. :bonkers: | |
