View Full Version : Autovation pedal install

Has anyone done the Autovation pedal install by supergluing the parts to the metal-exposed pedals? I noticed this on the Autovation website (to prevent drill bit skating).

If so, did you just do the 1/8" drilling with the plate in place, or did you do the entire drilling with the Autovation pedal in place?

I don't know if I would trust glue to hold on pedals. I wonder if temperature changes would affect the strength of the glue after a while. Anyway, I did install Ultimate Pedals and drilled and through bolted the pedals. The footrest was fastened with screws. My pedals had holes in them and I was able to mark them with a pencil then
center punch a hole. Then just drill through. Good luck, you'll enjoy them.

Ugh. Nasty(e-brake pedal).

Use a center punch and take your time drilling.

I obviously intend to drill through the brake and clutch pedals to mount the covers...I just wondered if anyone glued the pedal covers in place to then drill through the mounting holes, rather than just marking the holes and removing the covers before drilling.

Pimpcaddy's right ... especially about the "take your time" part.

I placed mine up into position, drew a circle within each hole I intended to use, center punched each circle (that's the hard part IMO), and it was downhill from there.

I did mine a couple weeks ago and finally got around to uploading the pictures.

Before, with the clutch pedal cover already removed:

Clutch pedal installed. I actually found the all-metal pedal was about the easiest one to deal with.

Really the only hitch in the install was on the e-brake pedal. Apparently, that pedal has a metal core to it. I drilled some shallow pilot holes, but when I went to install the lower screw, the thing got to that metal core, bound up, and snapped! Fortunately, I had enough room I could re-drill the holes about 1/8" higher and install the pedal cover. You can see the broken off screw in the lower hole.

Almost there, just the gas pedal left. My kit came 1 short on the screws, so I had to wait on the gas pedal to go buy another screw the next day.

Brake pedal is a little crooked, but it's not something I'll ever notice (other than in this picture), so I don't really care.

After installing the gas pedal, heel-toe was only marginally improved by having the wider pedal. It was still too low. So I bought some longer screws of the same type, and then used a 1/4" nut as a spacer on each screw to raise the height of the gas pedal. Perfect!

And you're such a hard-core racer, I'm sure you'll have use for that racing e-brake pedal...:suspense:

That really is a sore spot with you isn't it? How do you expect people to get thier car into a drift without the parking brake pedal?

It just looks dumb and cheap and ricerish and goofy. Other than that, I like it...

I'll be happy to compare track day experience with you anytime, Jim. I didn't buy this car to be a track car, and I didn't buy the pedals because I'm a "hard-core racer". I bought the pedals to improve the pedal spacing for heel-toe, which I do in everyday driving (as I imagine you do, too). My two other cars, both of which see track time, have stock pedals in them. Actually, the one that sees the most track time has a bare metal clutch pedal because the rubber pedal cover wore out a few years back and I've been too lazy to do anything about it.

So does a blacked out ricer grill, but to each his own, I guess. Should I be ashamed about the racing foot rest, too?

Maybe the reason other "racing" pedal kits for other cars don't have an e-brake pedal cover is because Cadillac is the only company stupid enough to leave the e-brake on the floor in a manual transmission car! Honestly, I was surprised the kit came with a cover for the e-brake, as I wasn't expecting that, but I don't see why the e-brake pedal shouldn't match the rest.

I guess some people don't understand the point of customizing a car to your taste is that it is to...your taste. You should all really consider what other people like before you do anything to your OWN car

When I did mine in the CTS-V the e-brake needed two serious drill bits to get through. The other pedals weren't that bad. I also picked up some slightly longer screws while I was at the hardware store getting the extra bits.

As for the hardcore racer comment, I wasn't being sarcastic about that. I'm not priveleged enough to be able to track my V every weekend so there's many, many others who have tons more experience and tons more talent than I would ever have.

You said it, Cadillac was dumb to have a foot e-brake. The pedal tucks up highly enough to not be noticed normally, so why make it an eyesore with that pedal? Did you grow up in WWII where everyone used everything they could? Let the little pedal rot in a box or use it as a necklace or something...

As for the blacked out grill comment, I'll pretend you never said such rubbish...

instead of glue why not just clamp the pedal covers with a c-clamp to keep it aligned so you can drill the holes correctly :shhh: pedals look cool by the way.

Not sure who but someone had the v logo machined into the pedals and then painted it. Not autovation pedals and cost a $hit load of money but sure looked cool :cool2:

That could be a special look......I have seen MB and Honda necklaces....but not a caddy e brake for some serious bling! :bouncy:

At the time Autovation was a supporting vendor here in the forum and we did a group buy on them.
