: Bye Bye Infiniti QX4... Bought a Infiniti M45

Well, we have been contemplating selling Nicole's Infiniti QX4 for some time. We put it on Craigslist last weekend for full KBB Private Party excellent value... the next day we had a couple come see it and they paid us full asking price!!

http://i203.photobucket.com/albums/aa306/96fleetwood/qx42.jpg

We already knew we wanted to replace it with another Infiniti, we were going to buy a slightly used 2006/2007 M35 or M45 and put about 50% down and finance the rest...

We test drove a 2006 M35x and a 2006 M45, both were nice, but both were a little over $30K.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw a glistening Garnet Fire Metallic 1st Generation M45. It had "Certified Pre-Owned" on the windshield... it was begging me to check it out.

Nicole didn't even know what it was at first, so I explained to her how I longed for one of these cars when they came out in 2003. Remember the commercials? "The new Infinit M45, the 340hp Muscle car is back. The muscle car with brains."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g3IE6kgbLc

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_g3IE6kgbLc

We asked the salesman for the key and he told me that this was the fastest car they had on their lot. I remembered the 0-60 was impressive, so I went online with my phone and got some quick stats while we were waiting for the key. 340 hp, 333 ft/lbs of torque, 0-60 in 5.8 seconds and the 1/4 mile in 14.1 seconds.

To make a long story short, the test drive won us over. This car had a sticker of $54,000! It has the Navigation, Voice Recognition, Adaptive Cruise Control, cd changer, heated and cooled seats, moonroof, xenons, chrome 18 inch wheels, etc etc.. basically every option you could get! It even has emblems on each side that say "Gold Edition." :bigroll:

I ran the carfax real quick and it was a 1 owner car out of southern Ohio... thank goodness it wasn't a local Chicago car!

So we were able to pay CASH for it.. no financing!! And we have a 2 year / 24,000 mile bumper to bumper CPO warranty!

Needless to say, this car is awesome. Nicole loves it, I love it.. and the Fleetwood loves sleeping next to it in the garage. :cool2:

I know it is not a Cadillac, but I really do not care much for any newer models besides the CTS-V and STS-V... and if I buy one it will be for me

Elias

I've always liked those cars. My gf's neighbor has one but in silver. But how much did you get it for?

Got it for $18,500 out the door with taxes, title, processing, etc. The dealer thought they were going to make $$ on financing and then I told them it was being paid cash :histeric:

I never knew how expensive taxes were here in Illinois :nono:

Kick ass dude!! Those are some of the most distinctive looking sedans from the last ten or so years, and that shade of red is brilliant! And man for power! I drove an '04 E500 last week at work, which is probably comparable to that in terms of power and performance...man was that quick! Fastest thing I've driven in a long time.

Good looking car, looks well maintained from the pics and the red really pops. All I would change is the gold badging to silver to match the rest of the trim and the chrometastic handles back to red.

Sounds like a deal at that price for a certified one too.

Thanks!

I agree, the Gold package and "Gold Edition" emblems will be taken care of.

When it warms up I want to do a few mods. The guys on the M45 board really know how to modify this motor.. it is insane.

It already sounds mean, but I might do the Magnaflow catback.. ;)

VH(?)-45 v. Northstar?

Discuss!

I hate to say it but.. the Northstar can't even compare. I sold over 40 '97-2003 Northstar powered Devilles, Sevilles, STS, SLS, DTS, DHS vehicles and they do not have the power and refinement of this car. I always loved the Q45, but thought it lacked a sporty feel.. this car makes up for it! It is a sporty Q45 with attitude. It is fast and does it effortlessly with super smooth shifts. I had to pass a salt truck today and tapped the gas pedal and saw 110mph from 65 mph in almost no time.

Nicole is driving it to work tomorrow for the first time (I took it today). She is like a kid on Christmas!

I took the Roadmaster "GS" to the car wash this afternoon and it felt like crap compared to the Infiniti. Sure it is just as fast, but it rides like a Vette and has super hard shifts.

After riding in Jesda's 1st gen Q45, I can honestly say that the Northstar was a far smoother engine than those first generation Infiniti 4.5L V8's. With those, it was like there was no power until about 4500 rpm, and then it's like you flick a switch and WHAM! Power!

This '95 Roadmaster "GS" is my new daily driver, bought it from a guy in my local Impala club. You can read the list of mods on my cardomain page.

Nice car, how many miles on it? I would suggest not keeping it past the end of the CPO warranty as the late VH-45 is known for a nasty oil consumption issue that can get real bad, and can happen at any mileage. Basically a side-effect of cutting corners to get 340hp out of a motor whose contemporaries were pushing 300 horses max back then.

I must admit I am sad to see the QX4 go, those are the best SUV for the money in the '01 models. I also recently sold my moms 2000 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4x4 w/90k miles for almost my full asking price minus a concession I made because the front differential was bad due to a seal leak. Sold it for 6000.00.

Now I'm looking for a 98 GC 5.9 Limited to replace it with!

I have been on the M45 forum quite a bit in the last 24 hours. So far there are only a couple owners on there that complained about oil consumption with synthetic fluid and once they switched back to regular dino oil it went away. One of the owners pushed the dealership so hard that they put a new motor in. I am not worried about it though, it has warranty and Infiniti service has been great so far. This is Nicole's third Infiniti...

Thanks for the tip though, we didn't plan on keeping it after the CPO warranty runs out. At that point I am sure we will buy a 2nd gen M45

The QX4 was nice, but it needed a few things that we didn't want to take care of, so we put that money towards the new car. The M45 is nicer than any Nissan product in the same class, the QX4 was just a fancy Pathfinder.

Congrats on the M. While I like the styling of the current Gen model, I love yours for the cool, nerdy Japanese look of it. Always have. And the power is nice. A bit of a Japanese muscle car feel to it, no?

Maybe I'll try an Infiniti out sometime. I've always had a penchant for the 90-96 Q45s, actually, all Q45's up until the last generation one debuted. Heck, those were pretty nice too, but the styling never won me over like the early ones did. Also, I like the M series, but of course the V-8 models the most because they were almost as big as the Q, but usually sportier and more performance oriented.

I'll let Jesda reply to that, I'm sure he can give a better explanation than I can. He was the one that told me to keep an eye for that when I almost bought my '05 Q, and a few other times in the past when the dorky Q's were on my shopping list.

The other thing you can always do is just get an extended warranty when the CPO expires, that would cover it as well.

If you're going to try ANYTHING, it needs to be the 2008 G37"S". I have not driven one, but even I am not beyond admitting that this NATURALLY aspirated car handily beat the living shit out of a 335i that ran out of steam on the racetrack, started overheating and stuff.

Not to mention my GOD the G37 is just pure sex. It is automotive art and has the exhaust note to match.

I will check the oil level weekly as I do on all my cars and at any sign of a problem, I will take it back to the dealer and have them fix it under warranty.

I doubt we will keep it any longer than 2 years. Hopefully we will be back in Florida by then and she wants a hardtop convertible once we move.

Great! And I love those cars too...always VERY distinctive, being a Japanese home market car brought over with new badges. There never were many and they never caught on, so all the more "cool" now.

And red...even more of a standout, from the usual silver and black crowd;)

Just thought to give an update!

13,500 miles later the M45 is still doing great. In November we put a set of Dunlop winter tires on and it blasted through the nasty Chicago winter with ease. Three months ago we put new pads/rotors all around at a high end independent shop for 1/2 the price Infiniti wanted. Other than that, all it has required is gas & oil changes. No oil consumption issues thus far!

We wanted a second set of wheels & tires for the summer, so we bought some take off G35 sport wheels with the TPMS and already mounted/balanced. It gives the M45 a sportier look to it, plus I went with a slightly wider tire ;). I had a muffler shop delete the last resonator in the exhaust and now it has a nice FX45/G35 Coupe sound to it. We also had the windows tinted last summer...

Overall it has been a great car for Nicole. She loves the power & luxury (heated/cooled seats, voice activated NAV, disctronic cruise, etc etc). I like the fact that I do not have to worry about fixing it because the CPO warranty covers everything except interior parts. Hopefully the next year of ownership will be just as nice!

Nice photos. I can't recall when I've ever seen one of those on the road. Infiniti does a horrible job of marketing except for maybe the G-Series. Infiniti makes cars as good or better than Lexus with more personality, but Lexus markets their cars much, much better.

I really like this car, and Nicole loves it. It does not feel like a glorified Maxima (the G35 does), but it also sits on the older Fuga chassis which was pre-renault. Infiniti's bread and butter is the G35/37, it is an affordable 3 series competitor. With the M45/35, they make their money with the lease offers. Then consumers like myself pick them up for great deals when the lease is over

I am amazed by all the options this car has for being a 2003, even more than a Lexus of the same year! The Garnet Fire metallic paint is stunning in person (it is the rarest color on the M45).

Take care,
Elias
