Does anyone know where to purchase, a locking gas cap for the 08 CTS?

I've been looking for one too - I haven't found one online or at any of the auto parts stores near me.

The door that covers the gas cap.

Is it only unlockable via driver button or can anyone
open the door and get to the gas cap?

I was very! surprised to see that the fuel door on this car doesn't have a lock with an inside release. Why the heck not??

I have ordered one fron eBay and am waiting to receive it. Kinda scary that this car does not have a locking gas cap or power door release as standard equipment. Here's the link.

Hi, Your gas cap it part of the emission system on your car. If you get the wrong one your check engine light will come on. HINT,if the dealer dose not offer as a option I would not change it. Tom:hmm:

Ooph! Thanks for that information, dynalub. I was about to order that lock cap
from eBay until I read your post.

Is there a locked cap available from the dealer?

A locking gas cap is a waste of money. The CTS doesn't have a locking fuel door because there's a check valve in the filler neck that prevents a hose from being fed into the tank and siphoning fuel out. Dynalub is also correct that it could cause a CEL if it doesn't seal properly, so save your money.

Thanks for the info about the valve Tony, but when I ordered my locking gas cap I wasn't as much concerned about gas being taken out of the tank as I was of some other liquid being deposited into it. I hate to say it but there are jealous people out there and they will do some pretty dumb things.

Cheers

Anyone...please keep us posted on whether there is
a lock cap available that will not trip the vehicle warning light.

I don't even put my keys in the ignition (all my vehicles are keyless).

Other liquids being deposited into my gas tank, is the reason I want a locking gas cap also.

Yep, in most major metropolitan areas you're going to want to try and prevent as much opportunistic crime as possible.

I live in the LA area, but the specific area where I live doesn't get much crime. My wife has accidentally left her car unlocked (and without the alarm on) countless times and nothing has ever happened. However - that's where I LIVE - where I work, the areas we shop, areas where we go to enjoy leisure activities (movies, music, restaurants, clubs, etc.) - you just don't want to take chances.

do you know if the sts has the same arrangement? i was shocked when i found out that my 06 sts6 didn't have a locking fuel door...i went out and purchased a quality cap from stant on line and i was even able to use the tether cord (with some finetuning) on the new cap. forget about the caps from the auto stores, they are junk...actually, i didn't order the stant on line...i researched it online and ordered it from my local autostore.

the stant does not throw a cel light, never has.

"the stant does not throw a cel light, never has."

It shouldn't. there is no magic about a Gas cap.
The magic is done in the fill pipe.

That the gas cap might set a SES light is a red herring.
It might if it doesn't fit properly.
As long as the cap seals effectively, there will be no problem (And always remember to turn whatever cap we are talking about at least three clicks).

And IF it does throw a light (Because it is defective or doesn't seal correctly) , go to Advance Auto. They will reset the light at no charge and you can put the OEM cap on.
