MyOpel bought one of these kits from liginfilter also he'd be the one to ask about this kit.

if I had the money and the mechanical know how I'd definatly go for it. maybe I'll wait until more people blaze the trail so I can bombard them with a crap load of questions

I have a kit as well.

The parts are from the cancelled Omega V8 that was to be introduced in 2001.

MyOpel and myself are collaborating on our builds and hope to have our cars done by the summer.

so many evil thoughts brewing...

I saved up for the kit but after seeing "MyOpel's" thread i saw all the parts and came to the reality i had nowhere near the mechanical knowhow to finish it... :( Wish my dad was a mechanic and could teach me a few things :yup:

I thought Lingenfelter did this swap with a ls6 but under this pic of the cat-v (http://www.pbase.com/elvin315/image/72796121) it says "7.0 Liter V8"????? :suspect:

Hey guys dont forget that the kit does not include the engine or trans, so to be honest such conversion will cost quite a bit of money in fact I think it could easily hit 10K border line and at that poitn I think I would personally look into a 2JZ-GTE Turbo motor out of a supra, or just get a regular Lexus motor and then throw the turbo on there, in fact you can probalby pay that kind of money and a showp will do the whole thing for ya... a Supra Shop that is... stand alone engine management and a few other toys should put you around 400-500hp and you will have one unique and very fast machine... that you can be proud of, I mean the V8 is super sweet and all but sounds to me too much of a hassle especially since no one has done it yet... and you are in the fog for now...

Here are some more pics of the production V8...

Hey guys, havenít been on here too much lately. My conversion is moving along slowly.
The kit includes many of the items needed but itís not complete, there are a few things to note-
-CV shafts are not included, you need to get GTO shafts and have them shortened.
-GTO oil pan IS included but you need to get the widage tray, oil pump pickup tube and dipstick.
-The AC compressor to block bracket is not included. The f-body bracket is different and wont fit, the lq4/9 bracket might fit but I have not gotten one yet so Iím not sure.
-mid section of the exhaust is not included. Manifolds, cats and the rear resonator with tip are included but the pipes are larger then the V6 exhaust so the mid section needs to be fabricated (cat to resonator with muffles).
-The engine bay wiring harness is not included. This is the fun part.
-No fuel pump included, Lingenfelter has designed a kit to make a walbro pump fit but Iíll cost you extra, I havenít picked mine up yet so I cant comment on install.
-The kit does not come with instructions. There are many brackets and parts, I have figured out where most of the parts go (except for 2 brackets. If you have never worked extensively under the hood of a car this will be very difficult. I have taken pictures of several assemblies and will post them later
Also the kit is for an automatic so if you plan on doing a manual swap you need the manual parts from an Opel Omega.
I highly recommend getting the LS1 out of a 2001-2002 f-body. The intake was from an LS6 and did not have the EGR system and the conversion is not intended for it either. Also the f-body cars have a very similar accessory system so the crank pulley will lineup with the accessories.

My Status: Iím still collecting parts. I have taken the Trans am accessories off the motor, removed the transmission and mounted the engine to an engine stand. I plan to do a cam swap and with the engine on the stand it just makes things simpler. I have also ported and polished the MAF and am currently working on the TB. I had the wiring harness laid out and removed all the plastic wrap and electrical tape, the modifications to the wiring will be done when the motor is in the car (so I know the location of the different sensors and can make the harness with very little slack).

Catera MV6, the 2jz gte swap would be interesting but I wouldnít say itís any less expensive. You would need to custom fabricate a lot of parts and you will still be left with a puny tiny open differential. At least with the kit you get a much larger differential with limited slip. The cost of this build is largely based on the cost of the motor, because I bought a low mile motor with the t-56 transmission the build is costing me more then say if I had bought a higher mile motor with an automatic. So far I havenít hit 10gís and even after the modifications I plan on doing Iíll still be below 10g
Then thereís the old joke: What does a 400hp Camaro have in common with a 1000hp Supra? Answer: 11second time slip. Iím not building this car to compete against other cars but rather the way I like. I like power throughout the rpm band all the way up to 6500 :lildevil: and sheís going to have a rough idle with a loud bark:D
Thanks for the pictures of the .com car, I havenít seen those ones yet.

To be honest if i lived in the USA i would have just bought a GTO. but unfortunately we are not allowed to import them into Canada so Iím building this 4 door gto

02-26-08, 05:58 PM

Where did you find those pics?

02-26-08, 08:30 PM
Yea im looking into gettin a GTO

02-26-08, 08:42 PM
They are from a friend who actually lives in Germany and he got these back in 01 i think with a crappy camera of the V8 Omega projects at the Geneva Autoshow I think, I took some of the regular Catera back in the day when it was here in the states... at the Detroit autoshow I will post those later... I have more...

I hope those pictures help guys, I figured they can give clues as to the setups or locations of things...

BTW MyOPEL, is it true that there are no GTOs in Canada... if it is that would be crazy...

If you have or can get any more pictures (or higher resolution) that would be great.

It was never sold here and it is inadmissable for importation into Canada.

O wow, well you guys do get some cars that we dont so one way or another we are even... I cant think of some of the cars that you guys got but I will come up with a few...
