Can I track the movement of my CTS as it is driven by someone else using the internet? or afterwards using the NAV system?

I don't know about the CTS NAV, I doubt it. It doesn't have many features.

But with the Nissan Murano for instance, you can turn on Tracking and it keeps a record of where the vehicle has been - even if turned off and restarted. Good for tracking the kids or ?? Probably not the only factory NAV with this capability.

As to tracking it live? I'm not aware of any service like that avail to the public. There are many application packages used by many organizations that allow them to track their trucks etc.

Maybe you can hack into the OnStar system!

Since OnStar's call center can locate the vehicle in emergency situations, the capability in the car itself exists. Maybe OnStar should add the on-line capability as part of the subscrition -- a new service. Of course they would charge more for that I'm sure...

Around here there no need for concern that someone is tracking your car with GPS. There are black helicopters circling the area constantly at low altitude that do the job just fine. The Army is training people due for deployment to track cars in an urban environment.

I have heard about several solutions, but most require monthly service fees. A UK system uses specific cell phones with built-in GPS and sends SMS messages to a PC. Most stand alone systems range from $250-600 with monthly fees ranging from $15-60. Since I have CarComputers installed with full-time internet, I use a free program developed by users on MP3Car that updates every 5 seconds to a central server that my friends and I can access via Internet.

OnStar will tell you (or the police) where the car is if it's been stolen, but you have to file a police report before they'll help out.

One other thought: doesn't the nav system let you specify howmany waypoints to remember, so you can backtrack? Maybe that would allow you to see where your car's been.

I know that insurance companies would like to track us with onstar in order to jack up our premiums for driving yoo much or too fast!
