Hi all, I just got my 1998 Eldo back with a rebuilt engine. Should I change out the oil at 500 miles then go to synthetic? Thanks from Jim:halo:

No NEED for synthetic unless that is your choice. Likewise, I doubt you NEED to change oil after 500 miles.

Thanks for the reply:halo: There is no break in period for the northstar? Also should I baby it, or drive it like normal?

Well I guess it depends on the definition of "rebuilt". No need on the factory engines that I am aware of. Where did you get it and what was done to it?

dont mean to do a highjack but ranger dont northstars need a little beating if it new/rebuild so it all seals right i remember reading this somewhere on here.

They need a little beating now and then to clean out the carbon and keep the rings free, but I don't recall hearing anything about seals on a new engine.

Sorry it took so long to reply. The motor is a reman longblock from APS http://www.apspowertrain.com/index.html in Texas. The tech guy said everything was new .except for the crank and rods,And that it might have timeserts. Its running at 210 up here in Boston Mass.
