View Full Version : A matter of CRYSTAL RED: Your opinions?

Well, it looks like the dealer made me a lease offer I can't
refuse. I am expecting that if the CTS I want is in stock, I will
take possession of one in the next few days.

My two top color choices were CRYSTAL RED and CHARCOAL GRAY.
Of course, these just had to be the colors that get charged a
premium.

I need advice from all of you on three things....

First, about the color RED.....

Everyone is warning me that if I get a red CTS chances are in
a warranted situation, I'll be pulled over the police more than a car
of another color. Is this true?

Second, still concerning the color RED.....

What do you think is the best color combination? I think
Crystal Red with a Ebony Interior looks beautifully HOT! Right
now, the dealer doesn't have that combination in stock, just
Crystal Red with Cashmere Interior. Any thoughts which you
like better?

Finally, just to kind of get a poll. If given the choice between
Crystal Red and Thunder Gray, which way would you go?

I know it's all a matter of personal taste, but I thought for fun
I'd like some help choosing.

Thanks!

I have a red '08, PDQ package, cashmere interior. FE2 suspension with the polished 18" wheels. All I can say is that it is the combination that I liked most. I don't worry about the cops because I have a red car. They still need probable cause to pull you over. Having a red car is not probable cause.

Get the red.

I have the same color, interior and packages. Had the hot lava been available last October, I would have taken it. I digress. Even though my wife calls the rest "ARREST ME," I agree that unless there's a reason to pull you over, you should not suffer from police anxiety.

Get the Red and enjoy! :welcome:

Statistics show Red cars are pulled over more than any other color percentage-wise to the color being on the road. Red likely attracts more attention from the police, but there may be an additional factor that people driving Red cars are more likely to speed than those in other colors. Not saying that's what I think, but that's what studies seem to show.

As for what color interior you should get, I think Crystal Red with Cashmere looks better than Crystal Red with Ebony. Actually I think Crystal Red with Light Titanium looks the best.

As far as what color exterior you should get, I prefer Thunder Gray over Crystal Red if it were MY car. If it were NOT my car, I would enjoy staring at a Crystal Red beauty on the road.

I'd go for Thunder Gray, it seems to be a bit more rare than Crystal Red, and I think it looks better (though Crystal Red is gorgeous, too).

As far as the interior, I've always been partial to dark coloured interiors - I'd go with Ebony if I could.

As a woman...I'd have to say that the Crystal Red is sexy-hot. Plus, if cops are going to profile you (which they do)..you'll be able to compensate by your red car being a Cadillac. I've never seen a Cadillac pulled over by cops.
Now..if it were a Crystal Red Bonneville you'd be asking for trouble because you'd have a double profiling whammy there. I have a friend whose son is a cop and he says they always pull over Bonnevilles. (just an FYI..in case you were thinking of leasing a Crystal Red Bonneville)

Having owned dozens of Red Corvettes and other cars i have to say that if your speeding, over 7 mph over the posted speed yes you will get pulled over. I have gotten in my younger years been pulled over and ticketed with Black, Gray, Blue,Silver & White vehicles. Drive prudently and there is no problem.

the crystal red is really two colors in my book: in anything less than direct sunlight, it's a pastel red...kinda muted...in bright sunlight it has some pop and looks great....to my taste i would prefer more of a candy-apple red and less of the pastel...

First off I'm very bias but, IMO the Crystal Red shows off the lines of the car much more than in any another color. The rear view expecialy stands out as broader and CTS 08 unique.

Interior (IMO) hands down the Lt Titanium w/Carbon Fiber trim!

My "first" red car after many years of blacks(4), grey(3) and silvers(2); too many on the road!

I also have suffered last month from a major speeding ticket, but it was my own fault!

I have also been driving for 3 1/2 months with only a rear plate in a "front plate" required province. As of yet, with lots of double takes, no hassels.:bigroll:

We have the crystal red...we love it, but I must warn you that it is very difficult to take care of. If you're ok with that, then I recommend it wholeheartedly. Strangers walk up to that car all the time. The wow factor is incredible.

Just a funny little anecdotal story. I have always heard about red cars being pulled over more. I have never had a red car before and have only been pulled over once for speeding (I was going over 100mph...I was asking for it). Anyway, we have this red car for a week and were driving back from Flagstaff, and wouldn't you know it..we were pulled over...for basically NOTHING. I'm not kidding, you'd laugh if I told you what this cop cited us for. My husband said to him, "You just wanted to see our car, didn't ya?" He smiled. We didn't get a ticket or anything.

red ebony is good! if you violate the traffic laws.. you will be stopped by.. it aint the matter of red.. if it is the matter of red.. it is because red is easier to see and eye catchy during the day.

I've got the red with cashmere interior and yes I was pulled over by a cop 2 weeks after getting my car for... driving past a moving school bus that was going in the opposite direction with yellow lights on. A totally BS ticket that I am absolutely convinced I would not have received had I not been in this beautiful car. Fortunately one of my nurses knows the officer, so no more ticket, but I was not a happy camper that day. 3 points for anykind of school bus infraction here in Michigan. PS any type of light on a school bus be it yellow or red means stop, even if it is going in the opposite direction. Other drivers look at me funny when I stop 500 feet from a school bus with it's yellow lights on, but another ticket is something I don't want to contend with. That being said red is a totally kick ass color. Go for it!

Hildy, why is that?

You're welcome. I was wondering the same thing. Since it is rich, deep red, I can see that it's going to require a weekly visit to my local touchless car wash and an application of Rejex every 6-8 months, but other than that, I see no problems with maintaining the appearance. You want a nightmare for upkeep? Go with black raven, black cherry or blue chip. THOSE are the colors that will require fastidious and labor intensive upkeep!

Let's remember too - the marketing gurus at GM chose Crystal Red to market their '08 CTS. This wasn't determined by a coin toss. Like the other gent above, this is the first car that I've purchased in about 8 years that wasn't some shade of silver. The wife and I had a tough time deciding between either of the silver shades or the red, but I let her make the call and she opted for the Red.

Let's face it though... Whatever color you wind up with, it looks great on the CTS.

Thanks for changing the "charcoal gray" to Thunder Gray in the same post. You're gonna go with whichever color you prefer most. I'll just tell ya...I get SO MANY compliments on my Thunder Gray CTS with Titanium interior it ain't even funny! SalesMEN tell me it's the best combination. Too many folks get the red...and it IS a nice color. But the Thunder Gray...well, with the Chromaflair paint, I just can't adequately tell you the way it presents itself. Check out the top thread...I just posted my new Thunder Gray/Titanium CTS with tint...nothin classier! Good luck with whichever color you decide!

I read an article in Mens Health that said that police pulling over red cars more often is a "myth". I like white better as far as dirt and swirl marks but I went for the red. The white diamond looked like a "chic" car to me. No offense ladies! I liked the black cherry, thundergray, and red. Went with cashmere interior because my former Lincoln Navigator with gray interior did not age as well as my former Explorer Ltd did with Cashmere. Ebony would probably show less dirt on floor mats but I think you can not go wrong with cashmere or ebony. The titanium offers the advantage of dark carpet so I think cadillac has addressed all concerns. Should do well with any interior.

hmmm....in connecticut i'm pretty sure the school bus must be stopped and have the swing out stop signs deployed and the red lights flashing before traffic in both directions must stop.

back to crystal red...the neighbor has a c/r srx and it's overcast....it almost looks pink in color...very strange....

You know, I went to the lot today and the dealer showed
me a Red CTS with Ebony interior and a RED CTS with Cashmere.

I thought the cashmere looked classy. Problem is, I can't get it
out of my head that it will show dirt more than black. All I need
is friends getting in the car and something coming out of their pocket
and staining the seat that would not normally be seen with black.

The ebony interior looked whicked! I mean, the offset between red
and black is just tremendous.

Problem is, the dealer said that the Red/Ebony combinations are very
hard to come by. Not many of them are available and that it would
take three to eight weeks to have one manufactured and delivered.

It's okay. I walked out of the dealership today anyhow because I
felt the lease price I was being quoted was a bit high and the dealer
was making me sit around while he kept going back and forth to his
general manager every time I had a pricing question.

We took delivery of our 08 Crystal Red CTS Dec 21st and we have never regretted our choice of Ebony interior. It looks great especially wth the Carbon Fiber trim. We debated too since all we saw on the lots were the cashmere interior but we went ahead and ordered the Ebony. We love this car! I only wish Ohio wasn't a 2 plate state!

You should definitely fight the ticket. Michigan law is if the bus is moving with yellow flashers its a warning that the bus is going to stop, if the bus is stopped and the Red lights are flashing you must stop on a 2 lane or 4 lane road. If the road is a 4 lane divided by a median you do not have to stop on a bus to opposing traffic.

Thanks. :D The 'Vette was the first GM car I've ever owned and I was so impressed with it, it opened my mind toward the brand. Never in my wildest dreams would I have believed that I would have two GM cars in my garage at the same time. Somewhere in heaven, my parents must be thrilled. I'll bet they are! I sold my Mag Red coupe to make space for the CTS (:crying2:). I'm having to go the long way around to replace her car with the CTS 'cause she has always !hated! :mad2: Cadillacs ... but I knew this one would change her mind. What kind of floor is that on your garage? Where did you get it? Was it easy to install?

Don't want to hijack the thread, but yes, it was extremely easy to install. I just whipped out the checkbook when the job was all done and paid the man. But to answer your question, it's a 5-step, professionally applied epoxy coating called Acritek. I had it done after we bought the house, but about a week before we moved in. I used www.perfectgarage.com. Here is a very good description of the product and how they apply it.

http://www.perfectgarage.com/services.htm

http://www.perfectgarage.com/application.htm

It's fantastic stuff. And cleans up extremely easily. It's available in many different colors, but I chose this one because our house exterior is light grey and I wanted the garage floor to match. Here's another couple of shots of the flooring, since you're interested.
