This Nav Traffic "Traffic" tab is driving me nuts. I know for sure that I have NAV traffic activated through XM but I never see the "Traffic" tab active, it's always grayed out. Is something wrong with my set-up or is it always grayed out until something happens on your route? Can someone clue me in? Thanks! Oh and yes I've read the manual and searched here first. Not much info on this one, maybe it's just me!

On my NAV, if I have not entered a route (just view the NAV screen with current car location, etc.) all events within about 100 miles are shown. If there are no events (rare in Los Angeles) then the tab is still available and the screen says there are no traffic alerts. If I have a route in progress, the traffic tab allows either showing all events or just those on the route. Interesting to note: on startup, if I immediately touch the traffic tab while in the NAV screen, a status of "getting data" is shown. The list of events then builds as data is received. If you haven't already, suggest you call XM to confirm correct provisioning of your receiver.

Well it looks like I have a problem since my tab is never active. I do know I have traffic coming in as I see the yellow flags on a wide screen view of the area and I can click on them to see the problem. It seems it's just the traffic tab that's not working correctly.

You have a problem, 72 Fleetwood. Traffic tab should always be active if you have XM Traffic subscription.

I stumbled upon the solution today. To get the traffic tab to work you not only need to turn on the "Display Traffic Information" button but also turn on the "Use traffic info for guidance" button. That wasn't too intuitive now was it?

Press Config
Press NAV at top of screen
Press Traffic Information, on screen

Press Display Traffic Information, on screen
Press Use Traffic Information For Guidance, on screen
The Traffic function should be operational now.

Seems odd the dealer wouldn't have enabled all that before you took delivery. The dealer went through all major features on my car - even though I kind of rushed him through it, as I had to get back to the office.

I agree! I quickly found that I knew more about the car when the salesman argued with me that there was not a car key inside the keyless entry remote.
