My car has 3000 miles on it and the service sticker says to bring it in at 3000 miles, but when I went in today, the guy at the check in told me to bring it back at 6000 miles because it has synthetic. But why would the sticker say 3000 if all CTS's come w/ synthetic?!

Just got mine today, I had 5,000 miles.
I usually change the oil sooner on a brand new car, but just never got around to it.:D

3000 mi with the newer clean burning low emission engines & better oil additives your wasting our precious resources. Start at 5000mi on the fires oil change and go to the OLM for the rest. Works for me, one of my oldest service trucks a 2000 Silverado using Mobil 1 has 247000+ miles and zero internal problems still gets 4-5000moi on a quart of oil.

Just do what the owner's manual says -- change the oil when the oil life monitoring system tells you to. You can check the % oil life remaining from the Driver Information Center, and you should also be getting monthly e-mail reports from your OnStar system with a snapshot of your oil life remaining. The oil life monitoring system is pretty sophisticated, and is able to account for whether you are doing city, highway, or a mix (monitors engine speed, temperature, and probably a lot of other things).
If you change your oil more often than the system recommends, IMHO, you are wasting your money. My opinion would probably be different if I planned to keep my car for 20 years, but the majority of new Cadillac owners will not, and probably will not even keep them for the current 5 yr/100k mi warranty period.

Follow the Owners Manual which basically says to change the oil when the oil life monitor tells you to or at 12 months, whichever occurs first.
When the Change Engine Oil Soon message in the Driver
Information Center (DIC) comes on, it means that service
is required for your vehicle. Have your vehicle serviced as
soon as possible within the next 600 miles (1 000 km).
It is possible that, if you are driving under the best
conditions, the engine oil life system may not indicate
that vehicle service is necessary for over a year.
However, your engine oil and filter must be changed at
least once a year and at this time the system must be
reset.

You are exactly right. End of discussion.
