View Full Version : Initial result: 2008 Cadillac CTS reliability mkaresh 02-21-08, 03:17 PM Thanks to the help of this forum, TrueDelta received 35 responses covering 65 months of ownership for the 2008 CTS. The result of 92 repairs per 100 cars (asterisked owing to a marginal sample size) is worse than average for a 2008, but similar to the results for other first-year GM models.
The survey covered through the end of 2007. Any repairs that were completed in January or February won't be included until the next update, in May. With TrueDelta's process, we'll be able to report any change in repair rates soon after it happens.
The most frequently discussed issue on the boards, a vibration in the steering at highway speeds, did not influence this result as only successful repairs were included in the analysis. The included repairs were mostly minor: turn signal, CD player, XM radio, etc.

Others won't have reliability info on the 2008 CTS until June or even October. Everyone who has been participating -- thanks for helping TrueDelta provide this information first, by a wide margin.
We can always use more help. You can join by following a link on the results page. NOT ON MY WATCH 02-21-08, 03:19 PM Accord? I didn't know GM bought out Honda. Wow - THAT IS NEWS!:) NOT ON MY WATCH 02-21-08, 03:21 PM Oh sure, now you fix the post...heh. mkaresh 02-21-08, 03:31 PM Brief lapse in quality control. Very tired, much to do... I am surprised that Cadillac has relatively speaking low initial quality/reliability ratings. Then again for me it will be at least 3 trips in 4 months. Never happened to me be before. Let's hope all will be fixed and there will bo no more trips to the dealer to "fix" things....only regular maintenance...
mkaresh, thanks for sharing the information. NOT ON MY WATCH 02-21-08, 03:38 PM Mkaresh, your efforts are appreciated - was just funnin wit ya. BamaCaddy08 02-21-08, 04:48 PM Ford has outstanding initial quality. Ford has outstanding initial quality.
Isn't it interesting? Then again I owned 2 Fords in the past, both sedans, in 200,000 miles and number of years of ownership I only had one minor problem with them....."crapy Ford"....maybe not... I just rollled 5200 miles since end of August; ZERO problems. Southern 02-21-08, 06:52 PM Too bad. GM put out quite an effort to eliminate IQ problems.
They failed. Must be a bitter pill for those involved.
I am disappointed.
If they are going to successfully claw back into contention with Lexuis/infiniti/etc, they must do better.
Doing " similar to the results for other first-year GM models", doesn't get it.
Thanks for the report, Mike. OneLapCoastie 02-21-08, 07:07 PM Is all of your data self-reported by owners or by the dealerships as well? mkaresh 02-21-08, 08:36 PM It's all self-reported. But it tends to correlate very highly with other such surveys. Just with an actual number, not just dots, and months earlier.
The CTS did end up under 100 repairs per 100 vehicles per year. It could have been worse. I forgot to include the "per year" bit in the OP. The figures are extrapolated over 12 months. The 92 per 100 does not mean that 90% or so of all cars have already had a repair. The actual proportion through the end of the year: one in seven.
One other thing to note: the 2008 Lambdas have about half the repair rate of the 2007s, in both cases based on sample sizes over 100. So GM is sometimes able to improve quality fairly quickly--the 2008 Enclave went on sale just half a year after the 2007 Saturn Outlook.
What they haven't yet done in my results is turned out a glitch-free vehicle at SOP.
It'll be interesting to see if there's much change with the next update, in May. In general the numbers don't change much, even with the small sample sizes, but sometimes they do. I report. You decide.

You can't take responses from a limited and unfiltered data set such as a discussion forum and with only 35 unscreened responses draw a reasonable conclusion. I commission a lot of research in my business and the work that goes in to pulling the data sample is pivotal in the validity of the findings. So this might be interesting but certainly not indicative of the CTSs true first year performance. Barry gets it....as Ive posted several times the research here needs to be labeled "For Entertainment Purposes Only". | |
