EVSEMI 02-21-08, 10:34 AM Yes Twice They Do Not Have A Fix .it Is Going Back Because It Is A Safety Issue If I Can't Close The Door Once I Get It Opened redvett94 02-21-08, 11:01 AM When you had it in for service did they replace the latch? Should be on your invoice. I suspect its a defective latch assembly. You may want to open door and when it wont latch call there service department and have them come and get it. Don't worry about the flatbed service its covered. Just tell them you cant drive it like that its unsafe. Too many times they cannot duplicate the problem and say no problem found. Ronster 02-21-08, 02:24 PM it's called Netiquette. unnecessary CAPS (and Caps if applicable) are very annoying and can be construed as Yelling. rg NOT ON MY WATCH 02-21-08, 02:24 PM Well, the admin is asking you not to do that, likely because it makes reading your posts more difficult. It's common courtesy / etiquette for forum posters not to type in all caps or caps on the first letter in every word in your post. spaceman78 02-21-08, 02:26 PM i never use caps lol Ronster 02-21-08, 02:29 PM me too. btw "me too" posts are also frowned upon. and unquoted responses. rg Ronster 02-21-08, 02:32 PM Yes Twice They Do Not Have A Fix .it Is Going Back Because It Is A Safety Issue If I Can't Close The Door Once I Get It Opened can the problem be duplicated at the dealership? like have they seen it but don't know what's wrong or what. maybe moisture freezing, they need to leave it outside overnite. my $0.02. rg EVSEMI 02-21-08, 04:52 PM I just spoke to my cady dealer they have no known fix at this time. NOT ON MY WATCH 02-21-08, 04:55 PM That's a huge safety issue - if you can't close your door after you've opened it - how the hell are you supposed to drive? You should escalate the situation by calling Cadillac. Zymurgy 02-21-08, 05:17 PM I Have Problems Unlocking My Drivers Door When The Temp Drops Below 32 Degrees . Anyone Out There Have A Fix For This? OK, original post says you have a problem unlocking the drivers door. Do you really mean unlocking, or do you mean opening? Then in another post, you cite a safety issue if you can't close the door after you open it. Has this actually happened to you, or are you just citing a potential problem that has not occurred? EVSEMI 02-21-08, 05:40 PM Yes it has happened to me . I have problems opening my drivers door when the temp drops below 32' and when I do get it opened the lock does not catch to keep it closed . I have to slam the door for about 15mins before I got it to lock. Today I had to get in on the pass side and climb over into the drivers seat ..this is the 2008 car of the year? NOT ON MY WATCH 02-21-08, 06:08 PM ..this is the 2008 car of the year? Well, there are always problems with any vehicle or other product. Some vehicles have more problems in certain areas than others, some people are going to end up getting a lemon, and some people will experience no problems at all. Note that there are plenty of owners who have the 08 CTS in freezing conditions and there hasn't been a throng of those owners complaining about doors not opening and not closing after they are opened. Discounting its COTY title because YOUR CAR has one problem isn't really fair - especially if it isn't a problem for anyone else (or relatively few people). I think in general the 08 CTS has pretty good reliability - realize that COTY isn't just about reliability though - it's about features, engine and handling performance, etc. It's not like someone awarded it "most reliable car of 2008". I completely understand your frustration with an ongoing unresolved issue, as I am experiencing a similar situation. If the dealer can't solve the problem, then you need to escalate the situation by getting in touch with Cadillac directly instead of their dealer. That's what I've done. OK, thanks for providing a clearer explanation of the actual problems you have encountered. Dealership probably needs to have the car in their possession with it sitting outside for some time below freezing so they can duplicate the issue. Always hard to solve a problem that you cannot duplicate. GO BUCKS 02-21-08, 07:47 PM Had the same problem, when temps went below about 20, the door would be hard to open and then it would not relatch. Dealer finally found a fix after 3 trips. They tried lubricating, replacing actuator motor and finally replaced the latch assembly. The final one fixed it. Appearently after the 3rd trip they called a Cadillac rep from the 11 state region around me and there were two others cars with similar trouble and replacing the latch assembly would fix it. The part number they replaced was 25864471, thats whats listed on my service invoice. It went down to about 5 degrees here last night and no problems, so that did fix it. Tell your dealer that this part was replaced on a car with the same problem and the problem was fixed. Also, in the meantime, I found that you can open the door from the inside when the latch is frozen without issues. Until the dealer fixed it, i would just reach over and open it from the inside or have a passenger open it for me on cold mornings. Appearently the part that freezes is related to the electric actuator motor only, the mechanical part from the inside door handle is uneffected by this particular problem. Red Sox Dynasty 02-21-08, 11:34 PM Had the latching problem this AM. I think it was in the high teens according to the thermometer in the car. I used a screw-driver to manual move the latch to the locked and unlocked position. After the third or fourth switching, the latch finally caught. I've seen this problem before in a GM vehicle probably 15 or so years ago. Did the same thing, but I think it took less manual switching. Bill 08CTS 02-23-08, 01:29 AM As of this writing, my 08 CTS is in the dealers shop waiting for a drivers door latch, among other repairs needed. The door would not close when it was real cold out. Hopefully it will be ready Monday. Musicman 02-23-08, 02:49 PM You may not believe this, but I shot WD-40 into the driver's door handle at both ends and I haven't had a problem since (knock on wood). EVSEMI 02-24-08, 10:30 PM Bill 08cts Please let me know ifthey fixed your problems with the latch not working correctly. thanks zinged 02-28-08, 07:10 PM I have had an intermittent problem with the driver's door since i've had my cts. At first the door would open then would not lock. Tied the door with a bungee cord and drove to the dealer . the dealer installed a new latch. last week it would not open ,while all the other doors worked fine. i took it back and the dealer response was " we can't duplicate it so we can't fix it '' . since it only happens when i'm away from the dealership I've learned how to climb over the console . redvett94 02-28-08, 07:42 PM I have had an intermittent problem with the driver's door since i've had my cts. The dealer doesn't want to hear that it hurts there dealership quality index. av00178 02-29-08, 12:32 PM I have the same problem the drivers door handle gets stuck in the pulled position. I could open the back door though and get in from there. 1701 02-29-08, 05:25 PM Me too! This morning...about 26 degrees, had to get in from the passenger side. Although I was able to OPEN the door from the inside, the internal latch must have frozen since I could not close it once I climbed in. After warming in the sun a few minutes, OK. But, yes, hard to believe that ANY vehicle would have such a problem. It's not the TUNDRA out there! | |
