View Full Version : Just a quickie. Sergey21 02-19-08, 10:51 PM Today after a nice hefty burnout, I noticed that only one wheel spins after looking at the mark. This, was sort of a disappointment for me, because its just another thing I have to add to the list to install on the car. But anyway, thing is where can I get a limited diff slip or maybe a whole axle that is a posi rear end? And since my seville is a 79, what other car models that have posi traction will bolt right up? Does a 79 give or take Chevy Nova have a posi rear end I can swap with? It's really embarrassing for a big ass V8 to be burning out with only one tire. I mean I got a lot of shit for this when I had my V6 mustang, but I ofcourse had an excuse, that it was a V6. Now, I really dont have any excuses and just need to make it posi.
To Do List:
Fix Couple Engine Probs
Paint
Tint
Rims
Exhaust
Stereo (Good Bye 8 Track)
And Posi rear end
Not in chronological order. :cool2: CadillacSTS2003 02-20-08, 01:47 PM have to have one custom built
prob at least 1500
its a lux car and a boat at that whatd you expect? not even GTPS and SSEI had posi Sergey21 02-20-08, 04:54 PM have to have one custom built

I wouldnt say 1500 at least... maybe 700 at the least 1500 most...last time someone said to repair my headgasket was going to be around 2500 - 3000, ended up only being 550 bucks with labor. I dont think thats a bad deal at all! So why cant I just open the gears in the back and stick a limited slip in there? No room, or something else?
And btw, my car is not a boat. If you dont know the history of cadillacs, my year seville was the smallest seville made, 27inches shorter than the eldorado. Which was only a 2 door and mines a 4. coppertop 02-20-08, 09:55 PM 79 seville? that's rear wheel drive if am I correct. If its 7.5 rear end look for Monte Carlo SS diffs. I know they had limited slip. If it's bigger rear end 8 or 8.5 rear end, look for Camaro Z28 or Trans Am diffs (78 - 81). Lots of Wreckers still have these cars, Take the guts and You should be good to go. Just have a tranny shop install the parts so you dont get a whinning. Just take the gears and guts or whole axle? How, do I know for sure what kind of end I've got? coppertop 02-21-08, 05:01 AM Go talk to somebody at a tranny shop and find out what rear end your car comes with first( 7.5 or 8.5) and go from there. It might be cheaper take the whole rear axle from the wreckers. If not take the carrier with the posi unit. If you want 3.73's or 3.42's take the gears as well. i remember Monte Carlo SS had 3.73's. 78&79 z28's had 3.73's. 80 & 81 Z28's had 3.42 gears. Hope this helps. The !976-79 Sevilles were actually pretty agile compared to other American cars of that era. While not equal to the better handling European luxury cars of the day, the "notchback" Seville set amd new standard of refinement in both ride and handling for American luxury cars. Performance cars of that era were very crude when it came to both ride and handling. These cars also set a new standard for paint quality, interior fit and finish, and suspension inovation for this period of American car production. These cars were not so very successful in the marketplace just because they were smaller, but because they offered better styling, better build quality, and superior handling to other American luxury cars of their day .........much as did the 1993-95 Seville STS's of their day. I dont think it has one, if I'm understanding correctly, you're talking about OVER DRIVE? Or low gear or D2? coppertop 02-21-08, 11:56 PM Don't forget to do your homework on a speedo drive gear (if there is one) if you go to a different axle ratio.......
Your rite, you will have to change the speed gear in the tranny. The tranny shop did the calculations for me when i changed my gears. I think it was like $2 for the gear. Sergey21 02-22-08, 12:38 AM Nevermind, gotcha, thanks sub. | |
