had an accident last night with my catera on the highway. i was entering the highway and started to accelerate up to highway speed from the on ramp when i hit something. im unsure of what it was. maybe a bump or pothole or something else completely. it shot the rear of the car out from under me and i slammed into the guard rail on the right hand side of the road.

i had the car towed today to a repair shop. have to see if my insurance will total it or pay for the repairs.

yeah that's what i'm afraid of. they'll give me next to nothing for it.

yeah, they are better off writing a check. That would be a fortune to repair. Some lady had cliped my front end in a parking lot awhile back, I only ended up needing one headlight front bumper cover and impact bar. Total cost was just over $2200! That sucks man. I would be devastated. I love my cat.

Doesn't look too bad, your airbags still good, right.

Settle with the insurance, score a parts car (or a front clip) at an auction or on the interweb and fix it.
You should come out way ahead.

If you are going to fix it, I have a line on most of the parts you are going to need.

my buddy has a Mark VIII. That thing has just as many problems as the Catera...at least his does.
Todd, idk where your located at, but my Cat is still for sale.
PM me if your intersted.
Theres nothing that id love more than selling it to a person who is already knowledged about it and i know will take care of it.

When I was hit last year (1997 Catera 150000 miles) they totalled it for minor rear damage. They wanted to pay out 1800. I badgered them into 3000. Told them I did a 'failure analysis' and pretty much replaced any item on my car that might possibly fail and expected a payout for a low mileage car.

A scissor jack and some wood bracing, removed all the plastic and bent the metal back into shape, and for 3K I'll drive it. Can't even tell it was hit.

Doesn't take much damage to total them the book value is low and the parts pricing is high.

the lincoln is really nice. very compareable features to the catera. less sporty around turns but the ride is very smooth. plenty of power available too.
