If anyone could help me I would love it. Here's my deal; Cadillac Eldorado 1993 4.6, It is idling and running rough, every other time i start it up, white smoke does not stop from the tailpipes. I recently took it to the dealer and they replaced all the wire and plugs and the problem went away for a few days but now back. Also today was the first time that the check engine light went on. I checked the codes and nothing came up other than past history problems. I don't know if i have to run new tests for the codes to come up or what. I open to trying everything as the dealer has not been much help.

Hmm, that is not sounding good. Is it smoke, or steam thats coming out the tail pipe? Are you loosing coolant or overheating? It sounds like a classic head gasket to me.

umm, its more white than steam and it put puts as it comes out, alot of shaking in the tailpipes, and it also smells like gas, and how would i know if the head gasket is bad?

Loosing Coolant, lots of white smoke coming out the pipes, overheating, rough idle, no codes. A cylinder leak down test, or test for hydrocarbons in the collant would confirm one way or the other.

If it smells like gas, then it could be something different.

Don't put anymore money into it, the headgasket is shot. $2500-3500 repair.

Wait a minute. If it smells like gas it may be a bad FPR and what you are seeing is unburnt fuel vapor. Go to the Tech Tips section and read the tutorial on how to check it. If that is the problem, it is a cheap and simple fix.

exactly, that was the one thing that got me. Check what Ranger said for sure, especially since it's cheap and easy.
