where is the best place to get a master rebuild kit? i tried rock auto and their cheapest kit was 1200 without pistons... ive bought rebuild kits for 600 bucks before, suggestions?

Rockauto is usually as cheap as anybody. It probably includes a kit to put threaded inserts in all the critical areas like the head bolts/studs. I would be looking for a used engine or a reputable rebuild. I've heard mixed reviews on Jasper engines; maybe search the archives around here. I see some pretty nice 4.9 Caddys on Ebay going for $2500 or less. Good luck

Northern Auto Parts http://www.northernautoparts.com/ is about the lowest price for a rebuild kit for these engines? Why are you looking into rebuilding this engine? If it were my engine and it had over 250k miles on it, I might put in a set of new rings and main bearings. These engines wear extremely well and even at 250k miles, you most likely will very little cylinder wear so boring is not needed.

im gunna open it up and see how it all looks first and replace accordingly
