View Full Version : Leather or Leatherette- whats the difference Jays03dsg 02-18-08, 10:57 PM I dont do alot of posting on here just ALOT of reading. I was curious though, i was pricing out a new CTS and had a quick question. When picking out the colors of the interior i notice that there are 2 different options with the leather seating; you can chose either the leather seating surfaces or the leathererette seating surfaces. I know that the regular leather seating surfaces costs and additional $2k. Can somebody shed a little light? I am sorry if this question has already been brought up. Leather is real leather, leatherette is fake. Southern 02-18-08, 11:13 PM Leatherette is just a marketing term for Vinyl.
Being a cadillac I would expect it to be a very good grade of Vinyl.
BMW also uses Leatherette with Leather optional.
I have always chosen leather, but I wouldn't let that stop me from getting a CTS if I needed to save the 2K. Jays03dsg 02-18-08, 11:17 PM thats what i figured it would be, but i just had to ask to make sure cause i didnt think cadillac did anything like that. Thanks alot for the info guys. smokiejoe 02-19-08, 11:17 AM There was a long thread about this ending about a month or two ago, if you want to search for it. A lot of mixed feelings about Leather vs Vinyl seats. Its a Cadillac, I believe it should have Leather, but if you need to save 2K, then as Southern said, that should be okay also. Jays03dsg, the extra $2K option includes a lot more than painted-leather seating:
Y44 Seating Package, includes leather seating surfaces, (AH8) 10-way power passenger seat, (AL2) 2-way power driver and front passenger lumbar control, (A45) Memory Package, (KA1) heated front seats and (XA7) heated windshield washer fluid. NOT ON MY WATCH 02-19-08, 12:51 PM Leather vs. leatherette - I drove a base model 08 CTS with the leatherette and the comfort of the seat was fine as compared to my 08 CTS with leather. However, what is NOT fine is that you'd be missing all the other options included with the seating package. ddawson 02-19-08, 03:16 PM If you want to save 2k, then get the leatherette. The main thing, is to get the 2008 CTS. That is primary. This is very personal. My last three cars had leather and I loved it. Just a bit of care (leather cleaners, conditioners etc.) once a while and it last forever. And gets this nice feeling.... Jays03dsg 02-19-08, 04:53 PM I plan on getting one with leather, it would be stupid spending all that money for this car and not getting it. i was just surprised that cadillac even offered it for this car. You can get an Entry level or an Ultra level.
Get what you can afford & makes you happy.
P.S. Leatherette gets better gas mileage :yup: The_Chief 02-20-08, 09:22 AM If u are planning to keep the car for a significant amount of years and purchasing it, then leather may be what you want...but if u are leasing, and only having it for a few years, then I would seriously look at leatherette and compare the two....Alot of the fake leather do look real.... So if you were "leasing, and only having it for a few years," you would NOT want 1.) leather seating surfaces, 2.) 10-way power passenger seat, 3.) 2-way power driver and front passenger lumbar control, 4.) memory package, 5.) heated front seats, and 6.) heated windshield washer fluid ???
In my opinion, real LEATHER is arguably the least of many good reasons to get the Y44 Seating Package regardless of term of lease or purchase. Musicman 02-20-08, 09:49 PM The heated seats and lumbar are worth the price in comfort and no back pain. Here in Michigan, the windshield washer heater is a bonus ! | |
