Hello everyone,

I have a DI 6sp Auto with AWD. When the shifter is in drive and I have my foot on the gas I feel a vibration in the shifter. When I throw it over to sport mode (manumatic) there is no vibration at all when I am on the gas.

I just wanted to find out from some others if the are experiencing the same thing or if I may have an issue with mine. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Hello parthent. This is not a personal attack, but I want to hi-jack this thread for a minute. The CTS has been out for a while now, so there are a number of issues that have already been discussed thoroughly. I'm growing a little tired of seeing the same issues rehashed over and over again, so I'd like to introduce a term that I saw in another forum - STFA. This simply means "search the "friendly" archives". This is a corollary to RTFM or "read the "friendly" manual". New users or folks that are unsure if something has been discussed should first STFA, then ask a question if they don't find an answer or if they have a different twist. Sorry for the rant.

I'm a new guy on this forum. I used the search mechanism for "shifter vibration" - the only valid response I saw was on the post that generated this thread. Maybe you had a bad day, but I've seen this attitude in a couple of other posts. A response that included a couple of links to appropriately related posts and/or a link to a tutorial on how to search and get valid results would have been more helpful. Sure would have been friendlier.

Sorry for the rant!

Parthent,

I too have a DI 6 sp auto with AWD. I believe that I feel some vibration in the shift knob at times but don't know if it disappears in manual mode or not. I will give it a try either later tonight or tomorrow and post my findings.

If you're going to tear him a new one, at least post the link. Like the old saying when you get pulled over by the cops.. "Give me the ticket OR the lecture, cause I don't need both!"

IMHO, NorCalCTS's post wasn't rude or mean-spirited. It seems there has been an increase in posts lately from users not bothering to search before starting a new thread. Sure, he could've provided links, however, its better to teach new members how to use the tools than to do it for them. The whole give the man a fish/teach a man to fish thing :)

That being said, I just did a quick search, and it returns a lot of hits, but none of the results pops out as being all that similar to rc135tx's issue. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the chat regarding problems people have encountered with the car end up buried in threads about different topics. As a result, the title of the thread isn't indicative of what might be contained inside.

This (http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums/cadillac-cts-forum-2008-beyond/122035-vibration-question-nvh.html) thread may be helpful to rc135tx.

Didn't really mean to 'tear him down', just pointing out that the response wasn't helpful for me, nor did I, as a new guy, find the atmosphere very inviting. And, as I said, my search didn't result in any valid posts, so I didn't have a path for a link to follow. Maybe you could do so since you seem intent on helping?? ;)

And I actually used a similar line to one of Texas' finest once ... I don't recommend it, tho. :o

I will be checking for a vibration issue in my car in the morning and will try to remember to post whatever I find. :yup:

The poor guy who started this thread is being ignored! It was not me, is not my problem ... this thread belongs to "parthent".

How do you search the contents of posts? I used the 'Search' drop-down options to no avail.

Thanks for your help.

My apologies for the unfriendly welcome to the forum. I guess I'm too sensitive about some issues which have been hammered to death in this forum. I reread your post a second time and it wasn't negative at all. Hope you have some luck finding answers to your questions.

rc135tx, thank you for your support. It's nice to see that most members have a positive attitude here.

I too am a new member to this forum and appreciate the link that PygmySurfer provided.

I apologize if I annoyed anyone.

Cheers.

I apologize, I quoted the wrong post :banghead:

I did try a search, but like you didn't come up with anything...

On two short trips today I did not notice any vibration in the shifter. I tried not to pay total attention to looking for it, to try to avoid poisoning my weak brain. It felt the same in both the normal and Sport positions. This car just came off the truck on Feb 7, so I need more time to recognize everything. I'll keep paying attention to the shifter this week and post if I can find something useful to say.
It just rolled over 500, so now I can play with it a little more. :bouncy: I really liked the way the Sport mode controlled the shifts, tho. I have always hated the way automatics operate when you're pushing into & out of corners. This car shows some promise!!

Tried earlier to send a reply that included a remotely hosted picture, but never saw it show up here.
First, thanks to all the forum members for the invaluable information that I have found while snooping around!
Next, I don't believe I have the vibration problem that parthent is noticing. My shifter feels solid in both normal and sport positions all the time.

Thanks for all the feedback guys. I'll be making an appointment to take it in to the dealer in the near future and I'll post later to let you all know what they tell me.

Cheers.

Parthent,
I checked the vibration in my shift knob and noticed that there is less vibration throught the knob when it is in sport mode. I don't have the vibration all the time and intend to check it out further to see when it seems to come or go. Good Luck! Let us know what you find if anything.

I also noticed a slight vibration in normal mode but none in sport mode.

Drove 400 miles today and felt just a little vibration maybe now and then, but I don't keep my hand on the shifter that much.
