View Full Version : 2002 Cadillac Deville Air Bag Light Djudd15 02-17-08, 09:29 PM Hello All Hopefully someone can help me out. The air bag light in my 2002 Cadillac Deville just came on while I was driving. I had a friend who has a scanner check it out and he said it was something about "Driver Pretens Deployment Loop". He tried to clear the code but the car would not let him. Can anyone give me some advice on what Might be wrong. Is this something the dealer needs to fix or can I try and Do it. Any help is Appreciated.
Thank You all in advance
Justin No need for a scanner. Go to the Tech Tips section and read the sticky on top. Pull your own codes then get the definitions here.

If someone could help me that would be great.
Thank You

A Factory Service Manual will have the diagnostic and repair procedure for all codes. eBay or www.helminc.com are two possible sources. An online Alldata subscription might also, but I have never used it.
You may have a problem in the steering column given its a driver side code. Hopefully something simple like a poor or broken wiring connection. Djudd15 02-18-08, 02:36 PM OK thank you all for helping with pulling the codes from the car. I had a few codes in the History but the Current One is B0065 - Left Front/Driver Pretensioner Deployment Loop Open. Anyone have an idea on what That could be and how easy or hard it is to fix.
Thank You All,
Justin chubbyranger 02-18-08, 03:57 PM I thought pretensioners were part of the seat belt system? Possibly a seat wiring issue? Logandiagnostic 02-18-08, 04:02 PM Each front seat belt buckle has a pretensioner. When the car detects a wreck, the seat belt buckles also deploy, and tighten up.
If you look at the seat belt buckle, it has a area that resembles a acccordian. This area will snug up in a deployment. The seat belt buckles need to be replaced after a deployment.
That being said. There is a connector very near the seat belt buckle that connects it to the air bag system. The connector can often get dirty or loose. I suspect if you check this connector it will fix the car.

I was able to wiggle the connector on mine a few times to clear the code before it wouldn't work anymore (code wouldn't go away). I had to replace the buckle. As I recall I could do it with the seat in the car, but it would've been much easier with it out.
Jim MrD3VILLE 02-19-08, 11:39 AM Thanks that helped me to. I just put some black tape over it. turbojimmy 02-19-08, 11:40 AM Thanks that helped me to. I just put some black tape over it.
That works, but be aware that as long as the light is on the entire air bag system is disabled (not just the device with the error).
Jim Logandiagnostic 02-19-08, 01:38 PM I think he means he put black tape over the IPC warning light.
I added a pic showing the seat pretensioner.

Right. And putting black tape over the light means it's still on ;)
Jim This is a common problem, both driver and passenger.
Check the connector as Logan suggests. Often when beverages spill it gets down there.
If the connection is clean, most likely the pretensioner is bad - assuming the wiring harness is OK (usually is). They're not that expensive, roughly $150 or so list. Did two on STS in the last few months, 98 and 02. You'll have to pull the seat for replacement, or at least unbolt it and shift it out of the way to gain access to the pretensioner retaining bolt. skankyfrankie 02-28-08, 07:59 AM Mine just did the same thing, the code was able to be cleared and it has not came back in yet. Kids jammed the floor mat under the seat, hopefully that was the cause if it. Badmrpotatohead 03-26-08, 10:00 PM Hi - my airbags deployed from a minor crash on my 2002 seville sts. I have replaced the airbags and the SDM module, but havent been able to track down the pretnsioners. Does anyone know where I can buy them online? Thanks! Badmrpotatohead 03-27-08, 12:57 PM Ah, never mind, I found a site. 250$ once all is said and done for driver and passenger pretensioners, but at least I found em! Now to just figure out how to install them.... |
