View Full Version : Deep Riding Comfort I had to make my first two hour freeway trip in my '08 CTS last week to San Antonio. I am about 6'1" tall, as soon as I hit I-10 West I tilted the seat all the back, pulled out and lowered the steering wheel, adjusted the mirrors, set the cruise control and cranked up my iPod. I was almost horizontal, legs streched out completely, I felt like I was in a Lazy Boy in the reclined position-I was Deep Riding. It was the most comfortable I have ever been driving a car. I was crusing at about 75 MPH, everyone that passed me was laughing-old dude Deep Riding in a Cadillac. Today I get to make a four hour freeway trip to Fort Worth, if you are on I-45 between Houston and Fort Worth and you see someone in a Crystal Red, DI Deep Riding it may be me. Try it, you will like it! Ronster 02-17-08, 12:53 PM I figured that's why there are two memory settings - one for around town, and one for long term cruising.
rg urbanski 02-17-08, 01:44 PM thanks for letting me know you come to town so i can avoid you. driving like that surely makes you unaware of your surroundings and unable to react RightTurn 02-17-08, 03:36 PM :yeah: Agree. Yeah, this forum is fickle as the wind - i.e., it's strictly taboo to ask about "non-ghetto" wheels, yet it's okay to ask about a "pimped-out" Cadillac. LOL PygmySurfer 02-18-08, 02:45 AM There are a ton of people on this forum who have written about how they've raced people on the roads and highways and this guy gets grief for talking about sitting low?
I imagine most of the people who engage in a little stop light drag race are able to properly control their vehicle. If you're laying down low like this you're unlikely to be able to react in a timely fashion to anything unexpected. Not to mention the increased chance of falling asleep at the wheel.
Also, just because racing isn't called out on the forum doesn't mean this "Deep Riding" shouldn't be. rblimas 02-18-08, 02:49 AM Yeah, this forum is fickle as the wind - i.e., it's strictly taboo to ask about "non-ghetto" wheels, yet it's okay to ask about a "pimped-out" Cadillac. LOL
the reason people get all crazy about someone saying "non-ghetto" is cause... never mind i already got in trouble getting on this subject before. but i agree i think ghetto wheels belong on ghetto cars. thebigjimsho 02-18-08, 02:34 PM I imagine most of the people who engage in a little stop light drag race are able to properly control their vehicle. Since some of you are so concerned about you or your family being injured by a man reclining in his CTS, maybe you just shouldnt leave the house, they have all sorts fo distractions on the road nowadays, navigation, 40gigabyte hard drives, text messaging, vanity mirrors to put on make up, ect....etc... Because I'm paying attention.
Driving horizontal is throwing away most of the awareness of your surroundings. So give it up... No need to lay horizontal to get comfortable. I take my 08 CTS on 5.5 hour trips twice a week and have done one 8 hour stint already. Its a drop dead comfortable ride regardless of trip length.
My only complaint is I'd love a dead pedal for left leg comfort but that's it. Hoping the 09 CTS V has some type of dead pedal I can order as a perfect fit dead pedal. That and bluetooth. Only thing really missing in this car.
And by the way, 5.5 hours is the very outer limit of the gas tank's capacity.. I'm probably one of 3 people in the world can ever test that limit every week. MPG? Bah, who cares... Give me the hours per tank spec and I'm happy. :) ByeBye Lexus 02-18-08, 11:55 PM Well, you can't read. As for speeding, I've done many track days hitting speeds well over 140mph. I clearly understood what he was saying, i just think he was exaggerating quite a bit by saying he was horizontal. leaning back? yes. But the M.O of the thread was saying how comfortable the ride was on a long distance trip for man of his height. Urbanaski metioned that he was glad he wasnt going to be in the area for fear that the deep riding guy would injure him or his family. A cts forum member by the name of (not on my watch) said that plenty of guys have talked about speeding and street racing in this forum and no it may not have been condoned, but they were not attacked like Mr deep rider was by simply stating that he "adjusted his mirrors" and leaned the seat back and cranked up his ipod. So i said give the guy a break, and hear you come talking about your track days, like that has any relivance to the topic, and insulting, saying that i cant read, but in reality if you would have taking the time that i know you have given your 8,293 posts, to really read the O.P and all the corresponding posts, you would have understood what i was saying, and who i was saying it to. Mistakes happen, i understand. Not trying to turn this into the forum battles that i have seen in here, just making a statment and i dont appreciate being attacked for that. I have noticed that a lot of supporting members are good at attacking people in here, even though you guys are supposed to be the ones who regulate and set the tone of this forum. PygmySurfer 02-19-08, 12:59 AM I think what Jim was saying is that while he was doing 140 on the track, he was still aware of his surroundings, and seated in a position to be able to control his vehicle - things not possible when reclined in your seat as the original poster to this thread was.
IMHO, street racing has nothing to do with this - one need not necessarily have to come out and condemn street racing to be allowed to comment on this obviously unsafe seating position. the cadillac kid 02-19-08, 01:03 AM I think what Jim was saying is that while he was doing 140 on the track, he was still aware of his surroundings, and seated in a position to be able to control his vehicle - things not possible when reclined in your seat as the original poster to this thread was.

You might try watching movies that touch on the subject briefly, then gradually ease in to movies that more overtly explore the subject. No puns intended. Many people respond quite positively when someone helps them to open doors to the subconscious - especially if the door wasn't locked to begin with.

A guy I used to work for was stopped in the lower 48 for suspected drunk driving. He told the cop it was okay because in Alaska you have a few drinks, blow in a breathalyzer, and take the driving test. If you pass the test it's ok to drive drunk. He claims they let him go. His wife says he'd only had a glass of wine with dinner and did ok on the sobriety test. I know that's a lie because he never stopped at one glass in his life.
So far this winter about 300 moose have been hit statewide. A usual score is 5-600.

It's about time somebody had stiffer drunk driving penalties (though they could probably be even harsher).
Then you get this guy (http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/crime/2008/02/20/dnt.19th.dui.wkrc), in Ohio, who's been convicted of drunk driving 19 times.
