If it's not on the dash, it would be in the door jamb. My 65 has in on the jamb, my 71 is on the dash. Somewhere in between, they changed. A google will probably solve it...

By federal law the VIN# is located in seven different places some of which are secret. Take it to your local state trooper detachment. They know where to look.

i'll call the troopers tomorrow. nothing in the door jam except an old "tire inflation" sticker. everything else is removed. any other location or way i can find out where it is?? the VIN # is J9269739 and that doesnt seem right. thats what came off of the old lien sale documents

Uh oh, better hope she ain't a theft! ...probably not, but another place you might check is on the old engine. I think they put the car's vin on there too, hence the term "matching numbers."

Early 60's have it in two spots, the left side of the engine and on the frame rail or crossmember under the radiator, not sure about the late 60's. Typically the format was like 64F143181. I remember going to the registry once and the woman told me "there's no way that's the VIN!"

The VIN tag for your car will be inside on the firewall and cowl area, readable from the outside looking down through the windshield.

Just like most of the cars are.

VIN through '67 were found on a plate in the door jamb

68 on up were at the base of the windshield

The door jamb tag on the early 60's is strictly an oil change tag that has the VIN typed on it by a little typewriter they had at the dealer, it's just a little plastic thing that has the VIN and says "owner's name" on it. THE only place they have the official VIN is the engine and the frame rail.

Are you serious? If you took it to them would they really assist you in finding the vin number? This may solve my problem. I just drove to Philly to purchase a 62, 62 series Caddy. I was so damn excited, it would have been my first Caddy. Unfortunately, I couldn't find the vin number on the car to to match up with the title. As painful as it was, I excercised prudence (or stupidity) and chose not to consummate the sale. The sale is pending on locating the vin#. I was told there should have been a plastic plate on the inside of the door, but because they are plastic often they are missing.

Also, here is a website I found that lists the location of all vin numbers. If its accurate, would it be worthy of being a "sticky"? None the less, we couldn't find it.

The sale of the car is still pending the confirmation of the vin# of the car matches the title.
